PHM (peptide with N-terminal histidine and C-terminal methionine) is the human homolog of PHI. PHM is a 27 amino acid vasodilator peptide which shares 50% amino acid homology with vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and which is encoded as part of the pro-VIP molecule1. Accordingly, all pro-VIP-derived neuropeptides are frequently co-localized, but appear to exert different physiological effects.
