Description
The 14-3-3 epsilon protein (14-3-3E) is one of seven isoforms in the 14-3-3 protein family, which consists of acidic proteins expressed at high levels in neurons of the central nervous system (1). It is an adaptor protein implicated in the regulation of a large spectrum of both general and specialized signaling pathways. 14-3-3E binds to a large number of partners, usually by recognition of a phosphoserine or phosphothreonine motif (2). It also interacts with both insulin-like growth factor I receptor (IGFIR) and insulin receptor substrate I (IRS-1), suggesting its role in the regulation of insulin sensitivity (3). 14-3-3E has also been implicated in the pathogenesis of small cell lung cancer (4).
