Angiotensin II plays an important role in the regulation of blood pressure and has strong vasoconstrictive effects. It also stimulates the release of aldosterone from the adrenal gland and inhibits adenylate cyclase activity in spontaneously hypertensive rats. Angiotensin II increases the entry of Ca2+ in heart muscle via voltage-sensitive channels and activates myosin light chain kinase (MYLK). It also elicits an increase in voltage-dependent delayed rectifier K+ current in neurons and activates JAK2 in smooth muscle cells. Furthermore, angiotensin II activates FAK (p125FAK) and a cytosolic 115-120 kDa calcium-dependent tyrosine kinase in rat epithelial cells. It also activates c-Src (p60c-src), ERK1/2, JNK, and p38α (p38 MAP Kinase) in vascular smooth muscle cells.
