DIN ISO 2108:2007 信息和文件管理.国际标准图书编号(ISBN)(ISO 2108-2005)

The purpose of this International Standard is to establish the specifications for the International Standard Book Number (ISBN) as a unique international identification system for each product form or edition of a monographic publication published or produced by a specific publisher. It specifies the construction of an ISBN, the rules for its assignment and use, the metadata to be associated with the ISBN allocation, and the administration of the ISBN system. This International Standard is applicable to monographic publications (or their individual sections or chapters where these are made separately available) and certain types of related products that are available to the public. Examples of applicable and non-applicable products are provided in Annex A. NOTE More detailed, operational guidance is provided in a users' manual available from the Registration Authority for this International Standard (see Clause 8).

The use, as well as the wear and tear, of library and archive documents varies. The choice of binding method should therefore relate to the appropriate requirements of a specific library or archive. The quality as well as the price of the binding is dependent on this choice. It is applicable to the following general procedures: — first-time hard-cover binding of published and unpublished materials, and any other documents requiring this type of protection; — rebinding of hard-cover monographs, serials and any other documents. It is not intended for binding volumes identified by a customer as having high artifactual or historical value, or for any volumes that, because of their physical characteristics, cannot or should not be bound according to this International Standard. Arrangements for special treatments should be made separately.
