This standard specifies the requirements for clamps for wire ropes for producing temporary rope terminations, where these terminations are subject to safety requirements, i.e. where failure of the rope termination could endanger persons. WARNING — Clamps for wire ropes manufactured in accordance with this standard shall not be used with hoist ropes in mines, in rope drives for cranes in steel works and rolling mills or for permanent fastenings of ropes in other rope drives, elevator, personnel hoisting and scaffolding applications. Nor shall they be used for rope terminations for load suspension devices in the operation of lifting appliances, except in the case of lifting tackle where these devices are produced for a special application and the rope is not reused. This standard includes permanent terminations for counterweights for conveyor systems or stays.
