Drive Type Fastenings without Taper Action; Parallel Keys, Shallow Pattern, Dimensions and Application
Dimensions of internal and external splines and of Full Form $7Igo$7R gauges and $7Inot go$7R feature gauges. Dimensions for straight-sided 90 serrations, line size $9H in to 6 in, serration $9D in to 6 in. Tables for shallow and deep splines, and for coarse serrations only. Three grades of fit.
Specification for straight-sided splines and serrations
Basic norms of interchangeability involute splines
Relates to splines produced in holes or on shafts of nominal size from ? to 6 in., for 4, 6, 10 and 16 splines of narrow depth and 6 and 10 splines of deep depth. Dimensions and gauging data are tabulated for bottom fitting (top clearance) and top fittin
Straight sided splines
Part I provides design data and other details of involute serrations of 45° pressure angle 10/20, 16/32 and 24/48 pitches for the full range 60 to 100 serrations, and 32/64, 40/80, 48/96, 64/128, 80/160 and 128/256 pitches for limited range. Limiting dimensions are tabulated and manufacturing errors and their effect on fit between mating serrated elements are discussed. Part II gives the methods of gauging and inspection, and the design details for gauges.
Involute serrations
Specifies dimensions of involute splined shafts and holes with a 30° pressure angle. Basic formulas for calculating dimensions and tolerances are included, with guidance on obtaining the fit desired. Terms used are defined. The Standard also describes methods of gauging and inspecting splines, with methods of obtaining dimensions and tolerances for gauges. Inspection of splines using pins is covered and tables of measurements over and between pins are included.
