This International Standard specifies, for classical and narrow V-belts of sections Y (for groove profile with datum width 5,3 mm), Ζ (for groove profile with datum width 8,5 mm), A (for groove profile with datum width 11 mm), В (for groove profile with datum width 14 mm), С (for groove profile with datum width 19 mm), D (for groove profile with datum width 27 mm), Ε (for groove profile with datum width 32 mm), SPZ (for groove profile with datum width 8,5 mm), SPA (for groove profile with datum width 11 mm), SPB (for groove profile with datum width 14 mm), SPC (for groove profile with datum width 19 mm): — the recommended datum lengths; — the tolerances for datum lengths; — the centre distance variations; — the conditions for measuring the datum length and the centre distance variation. This International Standard specifies the terms and definitions, in English and French, relating to aromatic natural raw materials. This International Standard defines terms relating to V-belt drives, V-belts, hexagonal belts, joined V-belts and the corresponding V-grooved pulleys, V-ribbed belt drives, V-ribbed belts and V-ribbed pulleys, as well as the corresponding symbols. The general definitions are valid irrespective of the system describing the pulleys. The dimensions of pulley grooves can be defined either on the basis of the datum width or on the basis of the effective width. As a result, two systems for the definition and description of the dimensions of pulleys and belts have been developed. The two systems are independent of each other.

This International Standard specifies the characteristics of quality which are common to all transmission pulleys. It establishes specific quality levels for the finish and balance of transmission pulleys and test pulleys. This International Standard is applicable to transmission pulleys for V-belts, V-ribbed belts, flat or synchronous belts; it does not apply to those pulleys for variable speed drives that have one or more moving flanges. The other characteristics of transmission pulleys can be found in the relevant International Standards.

NOTE Synchronous belt drives have been known by various titles, for example timing belt drives, positive belt drives, and gear belt drives. The principal characteristics include: a) nominal tooth dimensions; b) length and width dimensions; c) tolerances on these dimensions; d) length-measurement specifications. This International Standard is applicable to synchronous belt drives with pitch codes MXL, XXL, XL, L, H, XH and XXH, in both metric and inch dimensions.

This International Standard specifies the maximum and minimum electrical resistance of antistatic endless and open ended synchronous belts. This International Standard provides guidelines to allow testing of synchronous belts to prove their static conductive (dissipative) properties as well as a corresponding production control test method. The application of this International Standard is limited to new belts intended to be used in an explosive atmosphere or in situations where there is a fire risk. The test is intended to ensure that the belt is sufficiently conductive to dissipate charges of electricity which may form on it in service. In the case of a production control test, the decision is left to national standards or agreement between interested parties as to whether the test shall be carried out on each belt in a batch or on only a percentage of belts in a batch. For each proof test, the belt manufacturer shall determine which type of electrode and conductive coating material shall be used.
