1.1 This specification provides standard fitting geometries and laying lengths for plastic fittings intended for use in drain, waste, and vent applications. (See Specifications D 2661 and D 2665.) 1.2 Fittings meeting the requirements of this standard specification are designed for use with outside diameter controlled pipe. The inside diameter can vary significantly as the wall thickness and outside diameter varies and therefore is not suitable for use as a fitting socket. 1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.

This International Standard specifies a crushing test to determine the percentage deformation of injection-moulded unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-U) fittings and recommends a basic specification (see annex A). It applies to injection-moulded PVC-U fittings I_ for pressure pipelines, in accordance with IS0 264; - with solvent sockets, in accordance with IS0 727; - with sockets with elastomeric sealing rings, in accordance with IS0 2048.

It also specifies the test parameters for the test methods to which it refers. In conjunction with the other parts of ISO 4427, it is applicable to PE fittings, their joints, to joints with components of PE and to joints with mechanical fittings of other materials, intended to be used under the following conditions: a) a maximum operating pressure (MOP) up to and including 25 bar1); b) an operating temperature of 20 °C as the reference temperature. NOTE 1 For applications operating at constant temperatures greater than 20 °C and up to 40 °C, see ISO 4427-1:2007, Annex A. NOTE 2 ISO 4427 covers a range of maximum operating pressures and gives requirements concerning colours and additives. It is the responsibility of the purchaser or specifier to make the appropriate selections from these aspects, taking into account their particular requirements and any relevant national guidance or regulations and installation practices or codes. It is applicable to fittings of the following types: ⎯ fusion fittings — electrofusion fittings, butt fusion fittings and socket fusion fittings (see Annex A); ⎯ fabricated fittings (see Annex B); ⎯ mechanical fittings; ⎯ flanged fittings. 1) 1 bar = 0,1 MPa = 105 Pa; 1 MPa = 1 N/mm2.

This British Standard specifies requirements for injection moulded pipe fittings made from acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) polymer, for solvent welding to ABS pressure pipe conforming to BS 5391-1:2006. This British Standard is applicable, for example, to fittings intended to be used for: a) chemical plants; b) industrial sewerage engineering; c) power engineering (cooling and general-purpose water supply); d) electroplating and pickling plants; e) the semiconductor industry; f) agricultural production plants; g) water treatment; h) potable water supply; i) low temperature applications down to p40 °C. NOTE Pipe fittings conforming to this standard can be used for the transport of water intended for human consumption if it conforms to the relevant national, regional or local regulatory provisions applicable in the place of use. For products in the United Kingdom, attention is drawn to The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 [1].

This test method covers a procedure for establishing Pressure Rating for PVC schedule 40 and 80 socket-type fittings by evaluating fitting failure test data derived by testing water-filled assemblies of pipe and fittings. Unless the data approximates a straight line, when calculated using log-log coordinates, it is not possible to assign a pressure rating to that product or sample of product. Data that exhibit high scatter, or a downward curve, due to low long term data, will give low extrapolated values that are more conservative when calculated using log-log co-ordinates. In addition, this downward curve will show as higher scatter, and where the lower confidence level limits are not met the data shall be classified as unsuitable. (See Note 1) Note 1This test method is similar to that used in Test Method D 2837, which has been used for about 30 years to establish the HDS of plastic pipe materials and is the basis for all pressure ratings assigned to plastic pipes. The products covered by this test method are schedule 40 or 80 molded PVC fittings that conform to Specifications D 2466 or D 2467. The pressure ratings developed using this test method applies only to fittings identical to the ones that were tested. Some variables that will affect the pressure rating are - pipe size, pattern, mold design, material, and molding conditions. The values in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. The testing procedure used to obtain the fitting failure data shall be as described in those sections of Test Method D 1598, that are referenced in Section of this test method. The products covered by this test method are intended for use in the distribution of pressurized liquids at 73?F. When appropriate, the design engineer must consider the effects of elevated temperature and chemical compatibility of the liquid with the fitting material and apply necessary design factors. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the application of regulatory limitations prior to use. Note 2Pressurized (compressed) air or other compressed gases contain large amounts of stored energy which present serious safety hazards should a system fail for any reason.
