This document specifies the characteristics of fusion fittings made from polyethylene (PE) as well as of mechanical fittings for piping systems in the field of the supply of gaseous fuels. It also specifies the test parameters for the test methods referred to in this document. In conjunction with Parts 1, 2, 4 and 5 of EN 1555, it is applicable to PE fittings, their joints and to joints with components of PE and other materials intended to be used under the following conditions: a) a maximum operating pressure, MOP, up to and including 10 bar1 at a reference temperature of 20 °C for design purposes; b) an operating temperature between −20 °C and 40 °C. NOTE 1 For operating temperatures between 20 °C and 40 °C, derating coefficients are defined in EN 1555-5:2021. EN 1555 (all parts) covers a range of maximum operating pressures and gives requirements concerning colours. NOTE 2 It is the responsibility of the purchaser or specifier to make the appropriate selections from these aspects, taking into account their particular requirements and any relevant national regulations and installation practices or codes. This document is applicable for fittings of the following types: a) electrofusion socket fittings; b) electrofusion saddle fittings; c) spigot end fittings (for butt fusion using heated tools and electrofusion socket fusion); d) mechanical fittings. NOTE 3 The fittings can be, for example, in the form of couplers, equal and reduced tees, reducers, saddles, elbows or caps.

ISO 15876-3:2017 specifies the characteristics of fittings for polybutene-1 (PB-1) piping systems intended to be used for hot and cold water installations within buildings for the conveyance of water, whether or not intended for human consumption (domestic systems) and for heating systems under design pressures and temperatures according to the class of application (see ISO 15876‑1). The designation polybutene is used together with the abbreviation PB throughout this document. ISO 15876-3:2017 covers a range of service conditions (application classes) and design pressure classes. For values of TD, Tmax and Tmal in excess of those in ISO 15876‑1:2016, Table 1, this document does not apply. NOTE It is the responsibility of the purchaser or specifier to make the appropriate selections from these aspects, taking into account their particular requirements and any relevant national regulations and installation practices or codes. It also specifies the parameters for the test methods referred to in this document. In conjunction with the other parts of ISO 15876, this document is applicable to fittings made from PB and to fittings made from other materials which are intended to be fitted to pipes conforming to ISO 15876‑2 for hot and cold water installations, whereby the joints conform to the requirements of ISO 15876‑5. ISO 15876-3:2017 is applicable to fittings of the following types: - socket fusion fittings; - electrofusion fittings; - mechanical fittings; - fittings with incorporated inserts. It is also applicable to fittings made from alternative materials which, when fitted to pipes conforming to ISO 15876‑2, conform to the requirements of ISO 15876‑5.

This specification covers polyamide (PA) butt fusion fittings for use with polyamide pipe (IPS and ISO) and tubing (CTS). This specification covers butt fusion fittings intended for use with polyamide pipe and tubing. Fittings covered by this specification are normally molded. Fittings may be machined from extruded or molded stock. Conditioning, dimensions and tolerances, short-term rupture strength, sustained pressure test, and minimum hydrostatic burst pressure test shall be performed to conform with the requirements specified.

ISO 12176-1:2017 specifies the general characteristics of, and performance requirements for, equipment for butt fusion jointing of polyethylene (PE) piping systems using electrically powered heater plates. ISO 12176-1:2017 is applicable to mechanical and pressure-activated equipment for butt fusion jointing of PE pipes and fittings either intended to be used for the supply of gaseous fuels, conforming to ISO 4437‑2[1] and ISO 4437‑3[2], or intended for the conveyance of water for human consumption (including raw water prior to treatment) and for the conveyance of water for general purposes, conforming to ISO 4427‑2[3] and ISO 4427‑3[4]. Butt fusion machines with an automatic controller are subject to additional requirements as given in Annex A. NOTE This document is also applicable to butt fusion machines for larger nominal pipe diameters and nominal wall thicknesses than given in this document.

NOTE A list of International Standards for plastic pipes for which mechanical fittings can be used can be found in Annex A. Flanges are not covered by this document. Mechanical fittings for hot and cold water systems inside buildings, as well as for district heating applications, are not covered by this document.
