This International Standard describes two categories of hose impulse testing without flexing for rubber or plastic hose assemblies. Category 1 is high pressure testing for test pressures greater than 3 MPa and Category 2 is for test pressures from 1, 5 MPa through 3 MPa. The test procedure is applicable to hydraulic hose assemblies that are subject to pulsating pressures in service and are contained within the product requirements.

This SAE Standard provides general and dimensional specifications for the most common hose fittings used in conjunction with hydraulic hoses specified in SAE J517 and utilized in hydraulic systems on mobile and stationary equipment. The general specifications contained in Sections 1 through 15 are applicable to all hydraulic hose fittings and supplement the detailed specifications for the 100R-series fittings contained in the later sections of this document. This document shall be utilized as a procurement document only to the extent agreed upon by the manufacturer and user. Refer to SAE J517 for specifications of hose and information on hose assemblies. SAE J1273 contains information on application factors affecting hose fittings, hose, and hose assemblies. THE RATED WORKING PRESSURE OF A HOSE ASSEMBLY COMPRISING SAE J516 FITTINGS AND SAE J517 HOSE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE LOWER OF THE TWO WORKING PRESSURE RATED VALUES.

This specification covers sub-critically annealed electric resistance welded and cold-drawn single-wall high strength low alloy steel tubing intended for use in hydraulic pressure lines and in other applications requiring tubing of a quality suitable for bending, flaring, cold forming, welding and brazing. The grade of material produced to this specification is of micro-alloy content and is considerably stronger and intended to service higher pressure applications using thinner walls than like sizes of the grades of material specified in SAE J525, SAE J2467 and SAE J2614. Due to the alloy content of the material, the forming characteristics of the finished tube are equal to or better, when compared to SAE J525, SAE J2467 and SAE J2614. Nominal reference working pressures for this tubing are listed in ISO 10763 and SAE J1065. Caution: When brazing or welding is used as a tube end joining method, the structural integrity of the tube material can potentially be compromised due to the degradation of the areas affected by the thermal effect applied to the tubing; therefore, the ISO 10763 and SAE J1065 nominal reference working pressures may not be applicable. Brazed and/or welded tube assembly configurations made to specific geometry and components bill of material in association with this material, may require qualification testing in accordance with ISO 19879 Test Methods for Hydraulic Fluid Power Connections. Cold forming the tube end configurations avoids this systemic testing by not compromising the tube material structural integrity.

This part of ISO 1179 specifies dimensions, performance requirements and test procedures for non-adjustable and adjustable light-duty (L series) stud ends with ISO 228-1 threads with sealing by O-ring with retaining ring (types G and H, respectively). Light-duty (L series) stud ends in accordance with this part of ISO 1179 may be used at working pressures up to 31,5 MPa (315 bar) for non-adjustable stud ends (type G) and up to 20 MPa (200 bar) for adjustable stud ends (type H). The permissible working pressure depends upon size, materials, design, working conditions, application, etc. Conformance to the dimensional information in this part of ISO 1179 does not guarantee rated performance. Each manufacturer shall perform testing according to the specification contained in this part of ISO 1179 to assure that components made to this part of ISO 1179 comply with the performance ratings.
