This International Standard specifies methods for testing hydraulic valves which are used for the control of flow or pressure in a circuit in order to determine their steady-state and dynamic performance. Requirements for test installations and procedures, measurements and presentation of results are specified. This International Standard does not establish limits of performance since the suitability of the valve for its intended purpose should be agreed between the manufacturer and the user. Accuracy of measurement is divided into three classes (A, B and C) which are explained in annex A. Guidance as to the use of practical units for the presentation of results is given in annex B. Proportional control valves are not dealt with in this International Standard. Electrohydraulic servovalves are dealt with in ISO 6404.

This part of ISO 15407 specifies the following requirements for a mounting interface and electrical connector for five-port pneumatic directional control valves, sizes 18 mm and 26 mm, for use at a maximum rated pressure of 1,6 MPa [16 bar]: — dimensions and tolerances of the interface features; — port identification; — identification of the result of control-mechanism actuation; — dimensions, tolerances and specifications for optional interface electrical connector mateability. It is not applicable to the functional characteristics of interfaces. NOTE The requirements for mounting interfaces of five-port directional control valves, sizes 18 mm and 26 mm, without electrical connector are specified in ISO 15407-1.

This International Standard specifies the dimensions of surfaces on which servovalves are mounted in order to ensure interchangeability. It applies primarily to electrohydraulic flow-control servovalves which represent current industrial practice. It is applicable to four-port servovalves and also to five-port types, i.e. those in which the pilot stage is supplied with hydraulic fluid separately from the remaining stages. In addition, this International Standard may be used for pressure-control servovalves. If the valve is used in a three-port application, either service port (A and B) may be omitted. Because there is no clear distinction between servovalves and certain proportional control valves in performance and/or application, the existence of this mounting surface for servovalves does not exclude the use of a mounting surface as specified in ISO 4401.

This International Standard defines an identification code for hydraulic valve mounting surfaces and for hydraulic cartridge valve cavities that are defined in International Standards. Mounting surfaces and cartridge valve cavities that do not conform to International Standards should not be identified by this code. This International Standard does not require that the hardware be marked with the identification code.

This part of ISO 6953 specifies test procedures and a method of presenting the results concerning the parameters which define the main characteristics to be included in literature from suppliers of regulators and filter-regulators conforming to ISO 6953-1. The purpose of this part of ISO 6953 is the following: — to facilitate the comparison of pressure regulators and filter-regulators by standardizing test methods and presentation of test data; — to assist in the proper application of pressure regulators and filter-regulators in compressed air systems. The tests specified are intended to allow comparison among the different type of regulators and filter-regulators; they are not production tests to be carried out on each pressure regulator or filter-regulator manufactured. NOTE 1 The tests related to electro-pneumatic pressure control valves are specified in ISO 10094−2. NOTE 2 Use ISO 6953-3 for an alternative dynamic test method for flow-rate characteristics using an isothermal tank instead of a flow meter. However, this method measures only the decreasing flow rate part of the hysteresis curve of forward flow and relief flow characteristics.

This part of ISO 6953 specifies which characteristics of compressed air pressure regulators are to be included in literature from their suppliers. It also applies to filter-regulators. This part of ISO 6953 applies to — manually controlled direct operated types (with or without relieving mechanism), — manually controlled internal pilot operating types (e.g. nozzle flapper), and — external pilot operated types. In addition, it specifies the product marking requirements for pressure regulators and filter-regulators. This part of ISO 6953 is applicable to compressed air pressure regulators with a rated inlet pressure of up to 2500 kPa (25 bar) and an outlet adjustment pressure of up to 1600 kPa (16 bar); and to filter-regulators with rated inlet and outlet pressures of up to 1600 kPa (16 bar), in which the major contaminants are removed by mechanical means. NOTE 11 bar = 0,1 MPa = 105 Pa; 1 MPa = 1 N/mm2. The rated pressure should be selected from the preferred pressures listed in ISO 2944. NOTE 2 The main characteristics to be included in the supplier’s literature related to electrically modulated pneumatic continuous pressure control valves are specified in ISO 10094-1.
