This sectional specification relates to IEC 61156-1. The cables are specifically intended for work area wiring as defined in ISO/IEC 11801. It covers individually unscreened pairs in cables for work area wiring. The cables may be provided with a common screen over the cable core. These cables are suitable for the various communication systems for which the reference is given in the appropriate detail specification. The cables covered by this sectional specification are intended to operate with voltages and currents normally adopted for communication systems. These cables should not be connected to low impedance sources, for example, the public mains electricity supply. The recommended temperature range during installation and operation may be indicated in the detail specification. NOTE 1 The nominal characteristics impedance of a cabling link, measured according to IEC 61156-1 should be 100 ?O120 O or 150 O at frequencies between 1 MHz and the highest specified frequency for the cabling category. NOTE 2 The attenuation should not be higher by more than 50 % for each respective category. NOTE 3 The resistance may be 20 % higher than the resistance of the corresponding category.

1 This standard applies to 60-250°C single- or multiple-conductor jacketed or unjacketed, integral or nonintegral cables and single or multiple coaxial cables for telephone and other communication circuits such as voice, data, and audio for on-premise customer systems. These cables ale not prohibited from containing one or more optical fibre members. For the purpose of this standard, a coaxial cable or coaxial member conductor is a single conductor with a shield. For the purpose of this standard, a single- or multiple-conductor unjacketed cable is a cross-connect wire. 2 This standard applies to communications cables that are intended primarily for installation in accordance with Section 60 of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), Part 1, and Article 800 of the National Electrical Code (NEC) . They are rated for 300 V applications but are not so marked.
