Preface Standards development within the Information Technology sector is harmonized with international standards development. Through the CSA Technical Committee on Information Technology (TCIT), Canadians serve as the Canadian Advisory Committee (CAC) on ISO/IEC Joint Technical Committee 1 on Information Technology (ISO/IEC JTC1) for the Standards Council of Canada (SCC), the ISO member body for Canada and sponsor of the Canadian National Committee of the IEC. Also, as a member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Canada participates in the International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee (ITU-T). This Standard supersedes CAN/CSA-ISO/IEC 9995-1-07 (adoption of ISO/IEC 9995-1:2006). Scope This part of lSO/IEC 9995 identifies the sections of the keyboard and specifies the general shape and relative placement of the sections. Spacing of keys and physical characteristics are covered, as are the principles governing the placement of characters and symbols on keys. This part of ISO/IEC 9995 specifies a key numbering system which applies to all types of numeric, alphanumeric and composite keyboards of information technology equipment (ITE). This part of lSO/IEC 9995 specifies the principles governing the placement of characters and symbols on keys used on all types of numeric, alphanumeric and composite keyboards of ITE. Although the keyboard defined by lSO/IEC 9995 can be used for different languages, the specifications are written as applying to Latin languages with a character path from left to right and a line progression from top to bottom. This part of lSO/IEC 9995 defines characteristics related to interface 1 in Figure 1.

Also, as a member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Canada participates in the International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee (ITU-T). This Standard supersedes CAN/CSA-ISO/IEC 9995-8-07 (adoption of ISO/IEC 9995-8:2006). Scope Within the general scope described in lSO/IEC 9995-1, this part of lSO/IEC 9995 specifies the allocation of letters to the keys of the numeric zone ZN0 of a keyboard which has the ten digits zero to nine allocated in the "1-2-3" layout. The layout specified in this part of lSO/IEC 9995 is intended for applications of information technology equipment keyboards where letters instead of digits are used for the mnemonic retention of numeric information. This part of ISO/IEC 9995 applies to keyboards that contain a numeric zone ZN0 with the keys arranged and located as specified in ISO/IEC 9995-4:2009, Clause 6.

Scope Within the general scope described in ISO/IEC 9995-1, this part of ISO/IEC 9995 specifies the numeric section of a keyboard and the division of that section into zones. It specifies the arrangement, the number, and the location of the keys in the numeric zone ZN0 and in the function zones ZN1 to ZN6 of the numeric section, as well as the allocation of functions to the keys. The numeric zone ZN0 is to be used in keyboards for applications such as text and data processing, general office environment, banking, point of sales (POS), telematic services, telephony apparatus, home electronic systems, numerical control of machinery and equipment, input of personal identification number (PIN), etc. The function zone ZN1 is to be used in keyboards for applications such as data entry, text and data processing, general office environment, etc. NOTE Certain of these applications are under the responsibility of the ITU-T.
