Specified are calibration levels and test conditions for general-purpose photoelectric exposure meters which measure reflected or incident light, or both, in determining photographic exposure for camera use. The specifications apply to exposure meters containing a light-sensitive element, and indicating electrical instrument, a directional system and a calculator to correlate the meter indications with the camera exposure settings.

ISO 2721:2013 specifies the exposure at the focal plane of film-based cameras for values of two exposure parameters, i.e. field luminance and film speed, and also describes methods of evaluating other photometric characteristics, such as the acceptance angles of the photoelectric system. ISO 2721:2013 applies to automatic exposure control systems which are built into film-based cameras or coupled with them to regulate the exposure in the focal plane as a function of the several exposure parameters.

This International Standard specifies the essential dimensions of projector slides of the preferred international sizes 3 cm × 3 cm, 5 cm × 5 cm and 7 cm × 7 cm, and of the title strip. It does not apply to slides for specialized use, for example in television. This International Standard is intended to facilitate the manufacture, use, and international interchangeability of projector slides and to minimize the proliferation of sizes that would interfere with these objectives. Apart from the nominal 13 mm × 17 mm picture area (110 format film), this International Standard does not apply to the so-called "sub-miniature" slides smaller than 3 cm × 3 cm.
