Pertains to all conventional silver-halide contact and enlarging papers used for continuous-tone or pictorial photography. The method is based on exposing and processing samples, performing density measurements from the resultant image to produce a sensitometric curve from which measurements are taken and used to determine ISO speed and ISO range values. Annexes A to C deal with the relationships between the paper range and the effective density range of the negative, log exposure range and contrast, and log exposure range and average gradient.

This International Standard specifies the nominal sizes and aim dimensions, with their cutting toler-ances, of black-and-white and colour photographic papers in sheets (negative-positive or reversal processes) for pictorial use. It also specifies a method for checking the squareness of the sheets and straightness of their edges, and establishes a rule for package marking. The term "pictorial" means use in amateur, commercial and portrait photography, and excludes specific uses such as documentary reproduction, photocomposition or graphic arts. In this International Standard, metric units are prime.

This International Standard specifies the method for determining the ISO speed of black-and-white nega-tive camera films used for pictorial still photography. This International Standard applies to films processed in conventional chemicals and equipment, but also to those processed using special procedures such as those involving activators or heat for development. This International Standard does not apply to motion-picture, aerial photography, graphic arts, radiographic or micrographic applications, nor to negatives prod-uced in diffusion transfer systems.
