1.1 This European Standard applies to cutting machines used in paper converting: - guillotines; - three-knife trimmers; - index cutting machines; - trimmers; - rotary cutters; - round cornering machines; - label punching machines. This European Standard is only applicable in conjunction with !EN 1010-1:2004+A1". Both parts together identify all significant hazards relevant to the cutting machines when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer (see Clause 4). The specific requirements of this European Standard take precedence over respective requirements of !EN 1010-1:2004+A1". This document shall be used together with EN 1010-1:2004+A1. Both parts together identify all significant hazards relevant to bookbinding, paper converting and paper finishing machines when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer (see clause 4). The specific requirements in EN 1010 4 take precedence over respective requirements in EN 1010-1:2004+A1. This document does not deal with risks generated by noise emitted from the machines. These issues are covered basically in EN 1010-1:2004+A1. However, for machines like sheet folding machines and machines for the production of envelopes and sanitary items, some specific proposals for noise reduction measures are given. This document is not applicable to bookbinding, paper converting and finishing machines manufactured before the date of publication of this document by CEN.

This International Standard specifies a method for measuring “productivity” of digital copying devices and multifunctional devices with various copying modes. The International Standard is applicable to digital copying devices and multifunctional devices equipped with automatic document feeder and collating function. The International Standard is intended to be used for black and white (B&W) as well as colour digital copying devices and multifunctional devices of any underlying marking technology. The International Standard allows comparison of the throughput copying rates for a machine operated in various available operating modes (simplex, duplex, size of substrates, 2-up, etc) and various available digital image processing configurations. This International Standard includes test files, test setup procedure, test procedure, and the reporting requirements for the digital copying productivity measurements. This International Standard is not intended to be used for devices which are not able to copy on a media size of A4/8.5"x11", devices that do not have an ADF (automatic document feeder), or devices which are not able to collate multiple copies of original prints from a test set. This International Standard is not intended to replace manufacturer's rated speeds.

It allows for the comparison of the productivity of machines operating in various available modes (simplex, duplex, size of substrates, etc.) and office applications when the test system environment, operating modes, and job mix for each machine are held identical. This International Standard includes test files, test setup procedure, test runtime procedure, and the reporting requirements for the digital printing productivity measurements. This International Standard is not intended to be used for devices which are not able to print on a media size of A4/8.5”x11” or for devices, which are not able to collate multiple copies of a print. This International Standard is not intended to replace manufacturer's rated speeds. The productivity of a digital printing device depends on factors other than the printing device itself. These include, but are not limited to, computer manufacturer and model, central processor type and speed, RAM and hard disk memory capacity and speed, software driver, version of the application being used, operating system, and the type and speed of the communication path from computer to printing device, etc. Because of this, in order to make useful and accurate direct comparisons of printing productivity with this International Standard, the same computer system hardware and software shall be used for measuring the printing devices if for the purpose of being directly compared one to another. For every printing productivity measurement, the basic specifications of the computer hardware and software shall be included with the results of the printing productivity measurement. NOTE Important note for the use of this International Standard. There are other factors that influence the number of prints that a person can make on a printing device within a defined time period. These factors include typical job portfolio that is printed on a particular printing device, reliability of the system, downtime due to a service call, ease-of-use, (un)load paper during printing, routine maintenance, interaction with other users of the printing device and the network, etc. Such productivity items are not taken into account within the scope or methods of this International Standard.

5.1 Abrasion resistance during transport and storage is essential to prevent marring of type matter, designs, or protective coatings on the exterior of labels and other printed materials. Recognizing that the actual amount of abrasion occurring in the field depends on relative humidity, temperature, tightness of packing, and a host of other variables, this test method provides a rapid means for comparing the abrasion resistance of test surfaces under laboratory conditions. It is useful for specification acceptance between the supplier and the customer. 5.2 This test method can also be used to evaluate the relative abrasion resistance of printed inks, varnishes, laminates and substrates, and the abrasiveness of inks. 1.1 This test method covers the procedure for determining the abrasion resistance of printed matter using a GA-CAT Comprehensive Abrasion Tester. 1.2 This test method is applicable to packaging labels, book, catalog, and magazine covers, bar codes, corrugated boxes, and other containers having applied graphics on any flat substrate. It is not recommended for powder coatings. 1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use.
