What is this standard about? This European Standard specifies the three-poles temperature compensated arc fault circuit breakers without signal contacts, rated from 3 A to 25 A and used in aircraft on-board circuits. In any operating state a "trip-free" tripping is ensured. These Items are designed to protect aircraft wiring system from circuit overload and arc faults. It describes specific environmental, electrical and mechanical characteristics and the stringency of tests to be applied according to test methods of EN 3841-100. If the design of the arc fault circuit breakers contains software or complex hardware, as a minimum, the software and hardware shall be developed in accordance with RTCA DO-178B or C, DAL C and RTCA DO-254, DAL C, respectively. These circuit breakers are intended for use in aircraft with electrical supplies in accordance with EN 2282.

This European Standard specifies the required characteristics for three-pole, arc fault circuit breakers, rated currents from 3 A to 25 A, switching capacity 65 In, for use in aircraft electrical systems. Their operating temperatures are between − 40 °C to 85 °C at a maximum altitude of Z = 15 000 m. The thermal protection is temperature compensated and operates between − 55 °C and 125 °C. These arc fault circuit breakers are operated by a push-pull type single pushbutton (actuator), with delayed action "trip-free" tripping. They will continue to function up to the short-circuit current.

What is BS EN 4708-106 - Fire hazard sleeving about ?     BS EN 4708-106 is a European Standard that specifies the required characteristics for four types of heat-shrinkable limited fire hazard sleeving for use in aircraft electrical systems at operating temperatures between – 30 °C and 105 °C.   This sleeving is flexible, flame retarded and emits minimum smoke, gases and corrosive by-products when exposed to fire. It is available with various wall thicknesses and, also in a higher shrink ratio according to the application and degree of mechanical protection required. 1.1 Definition—This practice defines acceptable practices and processes for the design, alteration, and certification of electric systems and installations in general aviation aircraft. This practice does not change or create any additional regulatory requirements nor does it authorize changes in or permit deviations from existing regulatory requirements. 1.2 Applicability—The guidance provided in this practice is directed to air carriers, air operators, design approval holders, Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) holders, maintenance providers, repair stations, and anyone performing field approval modifications or repairs. 1.3 Protections and Cautions—This practice provides guidance for developing actions and cautionary statements to be added to maintenance instructions for the protection of wire and wire configurations. Maintenance personnel will use these enhanced procedures to minimize contamination and accidental damage to electrical wiring interconnection system (EWIS) while working on aircraft. 1.4 “Protect and Clean As You Go” Philosophy—This philosophy is applied to aircraft wiring through inclusion in operators’ maintenance and training programs. This philosophy stresses the importance of protective measures when working on or around wire bundles and connectors. This European Standard specifies the required characteristics of a light weight coaxial cable, 50 Ω, type KX for use in aircraft electrical systems at operating temperature between -55 °C and 200 °C and specially for high frequency up to 6 GHz. Nevertheless, if needed, -65 °C is also acceptable as shown by rapid change of temperature test.

This European Standard specifies the required characteristics for heat-shrinkable polyolefin semi-rigid, limited fire hazard heat-shrinkable boots for use in aircraft electrical systems at operating temperatures between -30 °C and 105 °C. The moulded shapes may be supplied with a pre-coated adhesive. Refer to the manufacturers/suppliers for options. A guide to adhesive compatibility is given in Annex A. These moulded shapes are normally supplied in the styles and dimensions given in EN 4840-002 Tables 1 to 22. The colour is normally black. Styles and dimensions other than those specifically listed in EN 4840-002 Tables 1 to 22 may be available as custom items. These items shall be considered to comply with this standard if they comply with the property requirements listed in Table 1 with the exception of dimensions.
