Air cargo - Main deck containers - Design and testing
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) establishes the basic requirements for the specification and testing of air/surface (intermodal) 8 ft x 8 ft (2.44 m x 2.44 m) cross-section containers. The basic rquirements for the air/surface (intermodal) container are presented in Sections 3 to 6 while the detailed design requirements are in Appendix A. Appendix B describes the sections of other standards that apply to air/surface containers. Appendix C describes uniformity of test apparatus and methods. These appendices shall be referred to for important supplemental requirements and procedures for this document. AS4041 presents the requirements for air mode general pur
Air/Surface (Intermodal) General Purpose Containers
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) establishes the basic requirements for the design, construction and testing of air mode 2.44 m x 2.44 (8 ft X 8 ft) cross-section containers. These containers are to be used exclusively in conjunction with the air mode in freighter versions of wide-body commercial transport aircraft. Air mode containers will normally be on aircraft roller conveying systems and/or on similarly equipped ancillary ground handling devices. Similar requirements for air/surface (intermodal) containers are provided in AS832.
Air Mode General Purposes Containers
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) covers the design, fabrication, performance, and testing requirements for general-purpose, base-restrained, containers requiring airworthiness approval for installation/use in aircraft lower deck compartments. See 10.1 and 10.2.

Air cargo - Certified lower deck containers - Design and testing
Air cargo. Certified lower deck containers. Design and testing
This International Standard covers the minimum design and operational testing requirements for general purpose base-restrained containers exclusively intended for the lower deck compartments of main line civil transport aircraft, capable of being used by either airlines or shippers and requiring airworthiness authority approval (certification).
Air cargo - Certified lower deck containers - Design and testing
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) covers the design, fabrication, performance and operational testing requirements for lower deck containers for use in main line aircraft which do not require airworthiness certification when loaded under the conditions of compartment restraint and in accordance with the aircraft's Weight and Balance Manual and/or, where applicable according to the aircraft type's approved Weight and Balance Manual, AS36100A or NAS 3610 equivalent base plate restraint for these containers. Most sizes of containers covered by this document (base sizes K, L, P, and Q) cannot physically be loaded and latched on aircraft main deck cargo systems.

This document provides functional, dimensional, structural, and environmental requirements for vehicle transport devices used to transport vehicles in wide-body aircraft. These devices are intended for use either in conjunction with NAS 3610 or AS36100 approved air cargo pallets or with specially designed and approved air cargo pallets. The unit load device (ULD) shall facilitate alteration for carriage of general cargo during return haul. Pallet nets used in conjunction with existing pallets in order to restrain general cargo are also described in NAS 3610 and AS36100. The minimum essential criteria are identified by use of the word "shall". Recommended criteria are identified by use of the key word "should", and while not mandatory, are considered to be of primary importance in providing dependable, economical, and practical vehicle transport devices. Deviation from recommended criteria should occur only after careful consideration, extensive testing, and thorough service evaluations have shown alternate methods to be satisfactory. It is the intent of this document to specify minimum air and ground handling features and to ensure interchange capability and compatibility with present and future air transport and ground handling systems. It is not the intent of this document to specify equipment designs.
