This European Standard specifies a procedure to determine the release of metals from metallic materials used in construction products intended to come into contact with drinking water. The test can be used for three purposes: a) assess a material as a reference material for a category of materials using the results of several investigations in different waters covering a broad range of water compositions; b) assess a material for approval by way of comparative testing; c) obtain data on the interaction of local water with a material.

This part of ISO 7086 specifies permissible limits for the release of lead and cadmium from glass hollowware that is intended to be used in contact with food. This part of ISO 7086 is applicable to glass hollowware intended for use in the preparation, cooking, serving and storage of food and beverages, excluding glass ceramic ware, glass flatware, and all articles used in food manufacturing industries or those in which food is sold.

This part of GSO EN 12546 specifies requirements for portable domestic food and /or drink insulated containers such as boxes, chests and bags, intended to contain generally wrapped or packaged food and/or drinks in their own containers. It doesn't apply to insulated bags designed specifically for short term storage and transportation of frozen foods, containers fitted with a device for production or removal of heat, containers for industrial or catering uses, or insulated flasks and jugs. It doesn't deal with the requirements for materials in contact with food which are defined by legislation already in existence.

B126 SERIES-13 - Water cisterns Preface This is the first edition of the CSA B126 Series of Standards, Water cisterns. It consists of the following Standards: (a) CSA B126.0, General requirements and methods of testing for water cisterns; (b) CSA B126.1, Installation of water cisterns; (c) CSA B126.2, Commissioning and field inspection of water cisterns; (d) CSA B126.3, Operation and maintenance of water cisterns; (e) CSA B126.4, Decommissioning of water cisterns; and (f) CSA B126.5, Mobile water cisterns. These Standards are considered suitable for use for conformity assessment within the stated Scope of the Standards. The development of these Standards was made possible, in part, thanks to the financial support of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Alberta Health, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, Health Canada, Manitoba Water Stewardship, Saskatchewan Ministry of the Environment, Fiber Technology Corporation, and Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada. Such support does not indicate endorsement of the contents of these Standards. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- B126.0-13 - General requirements and methodsof testing for water cisterns Scope 1.1 General This Standard specifies materials, design, manufacturing practices, methods of testing, and markings for prefabricated water cisterns for potable and non-potable applications. 1.2 Types of cisterns Cisterns covered in this Standard are (a) made of steel, stainless steel, concrete, composite materials such as fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP), and polymers such as polyethylene; Note: This Standard includes allowance for alternative materials. (b) not pressurized; (c) intended for above-ground, elevated, or buried installations, indoor and outdoor; (d) intended to serve single-family dwellings, multi-family dwellings, and commercial establishments, or form an integral part of non-municipal communal water supply systems; and (e) intended for mobile applications for replenishment of fixed installations and on-site distribution. 1.3 Cisterns not covered by the CSA B126 Series This Standard does not cover (a) water barrels and containers that are not connected to the plumbing system; and (b) cisterns that form an integral part of municipal water works or municipal water supply systems. 1.4 Requirements for potable water cisterns Specific requirements for cisterns intended for potable water applications are specified within each standard of the CSA B126 Series where applicable and identified as additional requirements for potable water cisterns. 1.5 Diction In CSA Standards, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard; and "can" is used to express possibility or capability. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application. 1.6 Dual dimensions The values given in SI units are the units of record for the purpose of this Standard. This European Standard specifies a procedure to evaluate the passive behaviour of stainless steels used in construction products intended to come into contact with drinking water. The passive state of stainless steels is the reason why no relevant amounts of metals are released from these materials into the drinking water. This test is used to verify whether the stainless steel under consideration is passive under conditions which can occur in drinking waters.
