Scope This National Standard of Canada applies to two types of automotive fuel: type 1, 50% to 85% by volume denatured fuel ethanol with gasoline and type 2, 20% to 25% by volume denatured fuel ethanol with gasoline. Both types are for use in flexible-fuel vehicles over a wide range of climatic conditions. Users of this standard are advised to consult the owner’s manual and/or the original equipment manufacturer regarding the suitability of the specific fuel blend prior to its use. Fuel produced to this standard is not for use in conventional vehicles designed to operate on gasoline containing up to 10% or 15% by volume ethanol. Precautions for the use of automotive ethanol fuel type 1 and type 2 are also identified1. Type 1 (E50–E85) varies from 85% to as low as 50% by volume denatured fuel ethanol under respectively warm and cold seasonal conditions, and also by geographic location. The proportion of gasoline is increased for use at lower temperatures to increase volatility to improve flexible-fuel vehicle (FFV) startability and driveability, and also to reduce the risk associated with flammable ullage spaces. For type 2 (E20-E25), the composition in this standard uses gasoline that complies with CAN/CGSB-3.5 or BOB suitable for CAN/CGSB-3.511 to meet the seasonal volatility requirements that ensure adequate startability, driveability and to reduce the risk associated with flammable ullage spaces (see Tables 2A to 2H). The testing and evaluation of a product against this standard may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This standard does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use. Anyone using this standard has the responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use. Units of measurement – Quantities and dimensions in this standard are provided in metric units from the International System of Units (SI units). This standard expresses the industry standard nominal units of measurement in North America of “% by mass” and “% by volume”. The SI equivalent expression for these units are % (m/m) and % (V/V) respectively.

Scope This National Standard of Canada describes two grades of propane used for fuel purposes. These grades consist mainly of hydrocarbons containing three carbon atoms. Grade 1 is intended for use in internal combustion engines and for general industrial and commercial fuel applications. Grade 1 maintains a minimum octane quality by limiting concentrations of low-octane components (see 6.5). Grade 2 is adequate for most industrial and domestic uses and may also be suitable for low severity internal combustion engine applications where a high-octane fuel is not required. Note: The requirements for Grade 1 and Grade 2 are derived from the GPA Midstream Association Standard 2140 specifications for HD-5 and commercial propane, respectively. In view of the maximum sulphur level specified in this standard, fuel conforming to the standard may be unsuitable for spark-ignition motor vehicle engines with emission control technology that includes catalysts (see F.7). Users of this standard are advised to take appropriate measures to address health and safety concerns related to the use and handling of propane (see 9). Units of measurement – Quantities and dimensions used in this standard are provided in units from the International System of Units (SI units). This standard expresses the industry standard nominal unit of measurement in North America of “% by volume”. The SI equivalent expression for this unit is % (V/V).

1.1  This specification is intended to support purchasing agencies when formulating specifications for purchases of aviation distillate fuel under contract. 1.2  This specification defines specialized property requirements to produce special-purpose aviation distillate test fuels that are intended only for engineering and certification testing of aircraft, engines, and aircraft equipment. Use of this specification for engineering and certification testing of aircraft is not mandatory. Its use is at the discretion of the aircraft manufacturer, engine manufacturer, or certification authorities when determining criteria for validation of aircraft equipment design. 1.3  This specification defines special-purpose test fuels that may be used to evaluate the operability, performance and durability of aviation compression-ignition engines when operating with fuels of marginal performance. The aviation distillate test fuels defined in this specification are not intended for general purpose use in aircraft. This specification also lists acceptable additives for aviation distillate special-purpose test fuels. 1.4  Specification D8147 is directed at civil applications, and maintained as such, but may be adopted for military, government, or other specialized uses. 1.5  This specification can be used as a standard in describing the quality of aviation distillate fuel from production to the aircraft. However, this specification does not define the quality assurance testing and procedures necessary to ensure that fuel continues to comply with this specification after batch certification. 1.6  This specification does not include all fuels satisfactory for aviation compression-ignition (CI) engines. 1.7  The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. 1.7.1  Exception— Other units of measurement are included in this standard. 1.8  This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. 1.9  This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

1.1  This specification covers Grades UL82 and UL87 unleaded aviation gasolines, which are defined by this specification and are only for use in engines and associated aircraft that are specifically approved by the engine and aircraft manufacturers, and certified by the National Certifying Agencies to use these fuels. Components containing hetro-atoms (oxygenates) may be present within the limits specified. 1.2  A fuel may be certified to meet this specification by a producer as Grade UL82 or UL87 aviation gasoline only if blended from component(s) approved for use in these grades of aviation gasoline by the refiner(s) of such components, because only the refiner(s) can attest to the component source and processing, absence of contamination, and the additives used and their concentrations. Consequently, reclassifying of any other product to Grade UL82 or Grade UL87 aviation gasoline does not meet this specification. 1.3  Appendix X1 contains an explanation for the rationale of the specification. Appendix X2 details the reasons for the individual specification requirements. 1.4  The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses after SI units are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.5  This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

1.1 This test method describes a procedure that can be used in the field or in a laboratory to detect antigens indicative of microbial contamination in liquid fuels, including those blended with synthesized hydrocarbons or biofuels, with kinematic viscosities (at 40 °C) of ≤24 mm2 s–1 (for example, Specifications D396, D975, and D1655) and in fuel-associated water. 1.1.1 This test method has been validated by an ILS for a range of middle distillate fuels meeting Specification D1655, EN590, Specification D975, and ISO 8217:2012. 1.2 This test method semi-quantitatively assesses the concentration of specific antigens generated by commonly recovered, fuel-associated, aerobic microorganisms during active growth in fuel systems. 1.2.1 A proprietary formulation of antibodies and antibody mixtures is used to detect three types of microbial antigen contamination: antigens generally found in aerobic bacteria, antigens generally present in common fungi (yeast and molds), and an antigen that is characteristic of Hormoconis resinae (the fungus most commonly associated with fuel biodeterioration). 1.2.2 Although the antibodies and antibody mixtures are characteristic of diverse types of bacteria and fungi, it is unlikely that they are universal. Recognizing that for every microbe that has been isolated and characterized, it is likely that there are a billion that have not. Consequently, as is the case with all microbiological test methods, this test method does not purport to detect 100 % of the microbes present in a fuel or fuel-associated water sample. 1.3 For each of the three sets of antigen detected (H. resinae, common fungi, and aerobic bacteria), the test detects whether the antigen concentration present is within set ranges representing negligible, moderate, or heavy microbial contamination. 1.3.1 For fuel specimens, the antigen concentration ranges detected are 750 µg ⁄L (heavy). 1.3.2 For specimens of water associated with fuel, the antigen concentration ranges detected are 166 µg ⁄mL (heavy). 1.4 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. For a specific hazard statement, see Section 8. 1.6 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

Scope This National Standard of Canada applies to four types of middle distillate fuel oils that are suitable for use in liquid fuel burning equipment without preheating [types 0, 1, 2 and 2(B6-B20)], and three types of fuel oils that contain residual fuel components that require preheating (types 4, 5 and 6). The heating fuel oils covered by this standard are intended for use in oil burning equipment to generate heat for domestic and industrial purposes. Users of fuel meeting this standard are advised to refer to the owner’s manual of their heating equipment, or to consult with their equipment’s manufacturer, regarding the suitability of the specific fuel blend prior to its use. Types 0, 1, 2 and 2(B6-B20) fuel oils are primarily for use in domestic oil burning appliances. They may also be used for some industrial purposes. a) Type 0 fuel oil is intended for use in domestic fuel oil burning appliances that have outside storage and where ambient temperatures as low as -48 °C could be encountered. b) Type 1 fuel oil is intended primarily for use in sleeve-type and wick-feed burners, excluding space heaters (see 9.1), and in most vaporizing pot-type burner applications. It is also intended for atomizing burners in which type 2 fuel oil cannot be used satisfactorily. During periods of lower ambient temperature, type 1 fuel oil may be used in place of type 2 to minimize waxing problems. c) Type 2 fuel oil is a heavier distillate than type 1 and is intended for use in most atomizing-type burner applications. This type of fuel oil is used in most domestic oil burning appliances and in some medium capacity commercial and industrial burners. Type 2 may contain up to 5% by volume biodiesel (see Annex C). d) Type 2(B6-B20) fuel oil is intended for similar applications to type 2 fuel oil in equipment that is compatible with 6% by volume to 20% by volume biodiesel (see Annex C). Note: There are CSA technical committees that are responsible for oil heat equipment and issue B139 and B140 standards. These standards contain requirements for the installation and certification of equipment that uses heating fuel oils. Types 4, 5 and 6 fuel oils are primarily for use as industrial fuels, and can be suitable for use in the pulp and paper industry, metallurgical operations, heat or power generation, etc. a) Type 4 is an industrial fuel oil intended primarily for burner installations equipped with limited preheating facilities or with no preheating. b) Type 5 is a residual fuel oil for burner installations equipped with limited preheating facilities that require a fuel oil of lower viscosity than type 6. c) Type 6 is a high-viscosity residual fuel oil for use in burners equipped with preheating facilities to handle such fuels. See Annex B for regulations that apply to heating fuel oil. The testing and evaluation of a product against this standard may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use. Anyone using this standard has the responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use. Units ofmeasurement – Quantities and dimensions in this standard are provided in metric units from the International System of Units (SI units). This standard expresses the industry standard nominal units of measurement in North America of “% by mass” and “% by volume”. The SI equivalent expressions for these units are % (m/m) and % (V/V) respectively.
