ISO 10848 specifies measurement methods to be performed in a laboratory test facility in order to characterize the flanking transmission of one or several building components. The measured quantities may be used to compare different products, or to express a requirement, or as input data for prediction methods, such as EN 12354-1 and EN 12354-2. This part of ISO 10848 is specifically referred to in ISO 10848-1:2006, 4.4, as being a supporting part of the frame document. This part of ISO 10848 applies to light elements such as suspended ceilings, access floors, light uninterrupted façades or floating floors. The transmission from one room to another can be simultaneous through the test element and via the plenum, if any. With measurements according to this part of ISO 10848, the total sound transmission is measured, and it is not possible to separate the two kinds of transmission. The measured quantities Dn,f and Ln,f depend on the actual dimensions of the test specimen. A light element is defined in ISO 10848-1:2006, Clause 3.

ISO 10848 specifies measurement methods to be performed in a laboratory test facility in order to characterize the flanking transmission of one or several building components. The performance of the building components is expressed either as an overall quantity for the combination of elements and junction (such as Dn,f and/or Ln,f ) or as the vibration reduction index Kij of a junction. This part of ISO 10848 contains definitions, general requirements for test specimens and test rooms, and measurement methods. Guidelines are given for the selection of the quantity to be measured depending on the junction and the types of building elements involved. Other parts of ISO 10848 specify the application for different types of junction and building elements. The quantities characterizing the flanking transmission can be used to compare different products, or to express a requirement, or as input data for prediction methods, such as EN 12354-1 and EN 12354-2.

This part of IS0 717 a) defines single-number quantities for the impact sound insulation in buildings and of floors; b)gives rules for determining these quantities from the results of measurements carried out in onethird- octave bands in accordance with IS0 140-6 and IS0 140-7, and in octave bands in accordance with that option in IS0 140-7 for field measurements only; and c)defines single-number quantities for the impact sound reduction of floor coverings and floating floors from the results of measurements carried out in accordance with IS0 140-8. The single-number quantities in accordance with this part of IS0 717 are intended for rating the impact sound insulation and for simplifying the formulation of acoustical requirements in buidling codes. The required numerical values of the single-number quantities are specified according to varying needs. The rating of results from measurements carried out over an enlarged frequency range is dealt with in annex A. A method for obtaining single-number quantities for bare massive floors according to their performance in combination with floor coverings is described in annex B.

1.1 This International Standard specifies a method by which the frequency-dependent values of the sound absorption coefficient can be converted into a single number. Before this is done, the one-third-octave band values of the sound absorption coefficient measured in accordance with IS0 354 are converted into octave bands. In annex B a classification method, based on these single numbers, is given for information. 1.2 The single-number rating specified in this International Standard can be used to formulate requirements and to describe acoustical properties of sound-absorbing products to be used for routine applications in normal offices, corridors, class rooms, hospitals, etc. The rating is not appropriate when the products are to be used in qualified environments requiring careful acoustical design by expertise. In such cases, only complete sound absorption data as a function of frequency are satisfactory. This International Standard is not applicable unless the applications cover the whole frequency range of the reference curve. If only a part of this range is of interest, it may be more appropriate to look for products with a good sound absorption within this range only. The shape indicators described in this International Standard give some guidance in identifying such products which may have a relatively low single number but a much higher potential if a more restricted frequency range is considered. Such products should be judged from the complete sound absorption curve. As the rating curve in this International Standard has as a lower limit the 250 Hz octave band, the rating is not appropriate below this frequency. If such low frequencies are of interest, reference must be made to the complete sound absorption curve. This International Standard is, in principle, applicable to all building products for which the sound absorption coefficient has been determined in accordance with IS0 354. It is, however, often not suitable for application to single items, such as chairs, baffles, etc., nor is it applicable to road barriers and road surfaces.

This part of IS0 717 a)defines single-number quantities for airborne sound insulation in buildings and of building elements such as walls, floors, doors and windows; b) takes into consideration the different sound level spectra of various noise sources such as noise sources inside a building and traffic outside a building; and C)gives rules for determining these quantities from the results of measurements carried out in onethird- octave or octave bands in accordance with IS0 140-3, IS0 140-4, IS0 140-5, IS0 140-9 and IS0 140-10. The single-number quantities in accordance with this part of IS0 717 are intended for rating the airborne sound insulation and for simplifying the formulation of acoustical requirements in building codes. The required numerical values of the single-number quantities are specified according to varying needs. The single-number quantities are based on results of measurements in one-third-octave bands or octave bands. For laboratory measurements made in accordance with IS0 140-3, IS0 140-9 and IS0 140-10, singlenumber quantities should be calculated using onethird- octave bands only. The rating of results of measurements carried out over an enlarged frequency range is dealt with in annex B.

This part of ISO 717: a) defines single-number quantities for impact sound insulation in buildings and of floors; c) defines single-number quantities for the impact sound reduction of floor coverings and floating floors calculated from the results of measurements carried out in accordance with ISO 10140-3; b) gives rules for determining these quantities from the results of measurements carried out in onethird-octave bands in accordance with ISO 10140-3 and ISO 140-7, and in octave bands in accordance with that option in ISO 140-7 for field measurements only; d) specifies a procedure for evaluating the weighted reduction in impact sound pressure level by floor coverings on lightweight floors. The single-number quantities in accordance with this part of ISO 717 are intended for rating impact sound insulation and for simplifying the formulation of acoustical requirements in building codes. An additional single-number evaluation in steps of 0,1 dB is indicated for the expression of uncertainty (except for spectrum adaptation terms). The required numerical values of the single-number quantities are specified according to varying needs. The rating of results from measurements carried out over an enlarged frequency range is described in Annex A. A method for obtaining single-number quantities for bare heavy floors according to their performance in combination with floor coverings is described in Annex B. An example of the calculation of a single-number quantity is given in Annex C.
