Test method for assessing the performance of gas-phase air cleaning media and devices for general ventilation - Part 1: Gas-phase air cleaning media (ISO 10121-1:2014); German version EN ISO 10121-1:2014
1.1 This Standard applies to all types of laboratory fume hoods, except for ductless fume hoods. Note: Ductless fume hoods should not be considered acceptable substitutes for ducted fume hoods. Some jurisdictions prohibit use of ductless fume hoods with certain chemicals. For these reasons, ductless fume hoods have not been included in this Standard. 1.2 This Standard specifies a) safety requirements for fume hoods, their users, and service personnel; b) test methods for assessing fume hood performance; c) requirements for the selection, use, and maintenance of fume hoods; d) requirements for the education of fume hood users and maintenance personnel; and e) requirements regarding information to be exchanged between suppliers and users of fume hoods to ensure that installation, function, and maintenance are compatible with the intended use. Notes: 1) Users of this Standard should note that fume hood requirements are also established by authorities having jurisdiction. 2) Other fume hood requirements can be found in, e.g., the National Building Code of Canada, the National Fire Code of Canada, the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, and the Nuclear Safety and Control Act. 1.3 This Standard does not address detailed design considerations, such as hood design, fan selection, and duct/stack velocities. This Standard does not apply to biological safety cabinets. Notes: 1) Requirements applicable to the installation and field testing of biological safety cabinets are found in NSF/ANSI 49. 2) This Standard is not intended to be used by manufacturers for the certification of their fume hoods. 1.5 In this Standard, “shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; “should” is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and “may” is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (nonmandatory) to define their application. 1.6 The values given in SI units are the units of record for the purposes of this Standard. The values given in parentheses are for information and comparison only.

During the renovation of schools often only energetic aspects are considered. The result is the deterioration of air quality in schools. The application of the standard helps to improve the indoor air quality in schools. It provides concrete requirements and instructions for implementation, and a guidance for architects and planners. It provides guidance on planning and operation of ventilation systems in schools with the aim of complying with the requirements specified in VDI 6040 Part 1. Information on non-mechanical ventilation as well as for mechanical ventilation is given. Described solutions are to be considered as examples, and do not release designers and operators of the responsibility to develop an optimal solution for individual cases.

"The standard gives information on the practical assessment of the broom cleanlyness of HVAC systems in the scope of VDI 6022 Part 1. Preferred measurement methods in European standardisation are evaluated in terms of known measuring method according to VDI 6022. In addition, instructions for cleaning of HVAC systems are given with the aim of broom cleanlyness."

Ventilation for buildings - Performance testing of components/products for residential ventilation - Part 11: Supply ventilation units; German version EN 13141-11:2015
This standard serves to determine the cooling load, room air temperature and operative room temperature for rooms of all types with and without air-conditioning, taking into account all relevant parameters influencing the thermal response of the room. Installation components affecting thermal response, such as mechanical or natural-draught ventilation and surface heating or cooling, are an integral part of the calculation method not requiring approximations any more. The method has been enhanced significantly with respect to the previous version, e.g. with respect to the coupling between thermal calculation, mode of operation, active installation components and control strategies. Furthermore, an extension and completion of the compatible meteorological data has been achieved, the scope was extended to cover all types of buildings with and without air-conditioning, component cooling and window ventilation. The latter allows calculations serving to demonstrate compliance with summertime insulation requirements. The calculation core for this standard is described in VDI 6007 Part 1, the window model in VDI 6007 Part 2, providing former missing sunshade information.

Ventilation for buildings. Performance testing of components/products for residential ventilation. Supply ventilation units
This European Standard specifies aerodynamic, acoustic and electrical power performance test measurements for unducted continuous supply ventilation units in a single room; ducted continuous supply ventilation units in a single room; un-ducted supply air ventilation units in a single room; ducted supply air ventilation units in a single room; centralised unit for whole dwelling; used in residential ventilation. In general such units contain the following elements: fan; air filter; control system. This European Standard does not cover the following: grilles, air delivery or air supply devices when the unit is ducted; sound attenuation; any heating devices or pre-heaters. Safety requirements are given in EN 60335-2-80:2003 and its A2:2009.
