The guideline is intended to serve as a resource assisting in planning, construction and operation, independently of all ordinances or regulations. The following aspects should be given particular attention in planning and design: Minimum number of sanitary fixtures, adequately dimensioned movement and traffic areas, hygiene and unimpeded cleaning, functionally reliable, practical and visually appealing facilities, safety requirements, robust equipment protected against theft, water and energy savings, economically efficient installations. Additional comments about planning, designing and installing sanitary facilities with disabled and wheelchair access in compliance with DIN 18024 and DIN 18025 will also be found in this guideline.
