1.1 This specification describes material and physical requirements for nonrigid poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) preformed molded and spliced gaskets used in mechanical couplings. These couplings are used in gravity flow drain, waste, and vent (DWV), sewer, sanitary, and storm plumbing systems. They include couplings to join similar and dissimilar piping sizes and piping material. 1.2 It is acceptable to use recycled materials in this product in accordance with the requirements in Section 4. 1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. This European Standard is applicable to the investigation and assessment of drain and sewer systems outside buildings. It is applicable to drain and sewer systems, which operate essentially under gravity, from the point where the wastewater leaves a building or roof drainage system, or enters a road gully, to the point where it is discharged into a treatment works or receiving water. Drains and sewers below buildings are included provided that they do not form part of the drainage system of the building. This part of the European Standard specifies a coding system for the description of the internal condition of drains, sewers, manholes and inspection chambers identified through visual inspection. Where appropriate, it can also be used for pressure and vacuum systems in accordance with the requirements of the employing authority. Visual inspection of drain and sewer systems can be carried out as part of the investigation in order to undertake the assessment. This part of the European Standard does not generally specify requirements for carrying out inspections.

This European Standard specifies general requirements and general test methods for - components such as pipes and fittings with their respective joints, manholes, inspection chambers and - materials such as mortar and chemicals all intended to be used for repair and renovation of drain and sewer systems. These drain and sewer systems generally operate as gravity drainage systems where any pressure likely to occur is a maximum of 40 kPa and which are generally buried. This European Standard provides the general basis for the preparation and revision of volontary product standards. It is not applicable for evaluation of products. It applies as a reference for drawing up a product specification, if there is no product standard available. This European Standard includes quality control and optional certification requirements. It applies to components those used in systems that convey in a satisfactory manner: - domestic wastewater; - rainwater and surface water; and - other waste waters (e.g. industrial waste water) that will not damage the components. This European Standard applies to components of circular and other cross sections. This European Standard applies equally to components which are factory-made and to those manufactured on site, where applicable.

It also specifies the test parameters for the test methods referred in this standard. The ancillary fittings covered by this standard are the following: ? sealed access fittings; ? rodding point covers; ? rodding tees; ? mechanical saddles; ? inspection chambers for shallow non-roadway applications to a maximum depth of 1,25 m. NOTE 1 Inspection chambers as defined in 6.1.3 of EN 476:1997 have a riser with a DN/ID less than 800 mm. NOTE 2 Deep inspection chambers and manholes for application area U are specified in Part 2 of this standard. The fittings can be manufactured by various methods e.g. injection moulding, rotational moulding, spiral winding or fabricated from components made to other standards. The jointing can be with: ? elastomeric ring seal joint; ? cemented joint for PVC-U; ? welded joint for PP and PE. NOTE 3 Pipes, fittings and other components conforming to any of the plastics products standards listed in Clause 2 can be used with ancillary fittings conforming to this standard, provided they conform to the requirements for joint dimensions given in Clause 6 and to the requirements of Table 6.
