1.1 This test method evaluates the energy consumption and cooking performance of retherm ovens. The food service operator can use this evaluation to select a retherm oven and understand its energy consumption. 1.2 This test method is applicable to gas and electric retherm ovens. 1.3 The retherm oven can be evaluated with respect to the following (where applicable): 1.3.1 Energy input rate (10.2), 1.3.2 Preheat energy consumption and time (10.3), 1.3.3 Idle energy rate (10.4), 1.3.4 Pilot energy rate (if applicable) (10.5), and 1.3.5 Cooking Energy Rate, Production Capacity, Cooking Energy Efficiency (10.7). 1.4 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The SI units given in parentheses are for information only. 1.5 This test method may involve hazardous materials, operations, and equipment. This test method does not purport to address all of the potential safety problems associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the users of this test method to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to its use.

Note: Throughout this Standard, the word “appliance” is used to refer to the whole group of equipment covered by this Standard. Where a requirement applies only to one type of equipment, e.g., an electric range, the words “electric range” are used. 1.2 This Standard applies to a) electric ranges; b) electric built-in cooking units; c) electric ranges in combination with gas fired heaters; and d) the cooking section of kitchen units, which consists of various combinations of electric built-in cooking units, an oven, a sink, and a refrigerated cabinet. Note: Products listed above that include induction heater elements are included in the scope of this Standard. 1.3 This Standard does not apply to rangettes, table ovens, toaster ovens, and portable hotplates that are covered by CSA C22.2 No. 64 or CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60335-2-9. 1.4 In this Standard, “shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the Standard; “should” is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and “may” is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Standard. IEC 60350-1:2011 specifies methods for measuring the performance of electric cooking ranges, ovens, steam ovens, and grills for household use. The ovens covered by this standard may be with or without microwave function. This standard defines the main performance characteristics of these appliances which are of interest to the user and specifies methods for measuring these characteristics. This standard does not specify requirements for performance. This first edition of IEC 60350-1 is related to IEC 60350:1999 which shall be separated in two parts: one part for cooking ranges, ovens and steam ovens and the other part for hobs. This part 1 of IEC 60350 covers cooking ranges, ovens, steam ovens and grills, and IEC 60350-2 covers hobs. The contents of the corrigenda of February 2012 and August 2013 have been included in this copy.
