4.1 The purpose of these tests are to provide valid and repeatable methods for the evaluation of fitness equipment assembled and maintained according to the manufacturer’s specifications. Use of these test methods in conjunction with Specification F2276 is intended to maximize the reliability of fitness equipment design and reduce the risk of serious injury resulting from design deficiencies. 1.1 These test methods specify procedures and apparatus used for testing and evaluating fitness equipment for compliance to Specification F2276. Both design and operational parameters will be evaluated. Where possible and applicable, accepted test methods from other recognized bodies will be used and referenced. 1.2 It is the intent of this standard to specify test methods for fitness products for use by individuals age 13 and above. 1.3 Requirements—Fitness Equipment is to be tested for all of the following parameters: 1.3.1 Stability. 1.3.2 Edge and Corner Sharpness. 1.3.3 Tube Ends and Holes. 1.3.4 Function of Adjustments and Locking Mechanisms. 1.3.5 Handgrip Design and Retention. 1.3.6 Foot Supports. 1.3.7 Load Development and Transmitting Systems. 1.3.8 Chain and Gear Drive Design. 1.3.9 Entrapment Zones and Guarding. 1.3.10 Loading: 1.3.10.1 Intrinsic Loading. 1.3.10.2 Extrinsic Loading. 1.3.10.3 Handlebar Loading. 1.3.10.4 Endurance Loading. (1) Seat frame endurance loading. 1.3.11 Switch and switch actuation mechanism endurance. 1.3.12 Electrical Guarding. 1.3.13 Maximum Surface Temperature. 1.3.14 Documentation and Warnings Verification. ......

1.1 This safety specification covers the components, assembly, use, labeling, and performance requirements of consumer trampoline enclosures (see Safety Specification F381). 1.2 This specification is applicable to trampoline enclosures to be sold as an accessory to or packaged with trampolines of (1) a minimum bed size of 3300 in.2 (2.1 m2), (2) a minimum height of 20 in. (510 mm), (3) intended for the purpose of continuous, vertical jumping activities, and (4) intended for consumer use. 1.3 This specification includes the following sections and selected subsections: Section Scope 1 Referenced Documents 2 Terminology 3 Components 4 General Requirements 5 Performance Requirements 6 Performance Tests 6 Information Packet 7 Product Marking
Standard Safety Specification for Consumer Trampoline Enclosures
1.1 This consumer safety specification establishes testing requirements for structural integrity and performance requirements for non-full-size cribs/play yards, both rigid sided and mesh/fabric assemblies. It also provides requirements for labeling and instructional material. The term unit or product will refer to a non-full-size crib/play yard. 1.2 This specification covers a framed enclosure with a floor made for the purpose of providing sleeping and playing accommodations for a child who cannot climb out and is less than 35 in. (890 mm) in height. It also covers bassinet, changing table, or similar accessories to a non-full size crib/play yard. These accessories shall also comply with the applicable requirements of ASTM standards addressing those accessories. For example, a changing table that attaches to a play yard shall also comply with the applicable requirements in Specification F2388. This specification does not cover inflatable products. 1.3 No product produced after the approval date of this consumer safety specification shall, either by label or other means, indicate compliance with this specification unless it conforms to all applicable requirements contained herein, before and after all testing. 1.4 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.5 The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to the test method portion, Section 8, of this specification: This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. Note 1: This consumer safety specification includes the following sections: Title Section Scope
Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Non-Full-Size Baby Cribs/Play Yards
1.1 This safety specification covers the components, the assembly, and the use of consumer trampolines. 1.2 This specification is delimited in its application to trampolines of (1) a minimum bed size of 3300 in.2 (21 300 cm2), (2) a minimum height of 20 in. (51 cm), (3) intended for the purpose of continuous, vertical jumping activities and (4) intended for consumer use. 1.3 This specification is intended (1) to reduce the demonstrated hazards associated with the use of trampolines by consumers; (2) for trampolines used in a home environment by a single user; and (3) not to apply to institutional trampolines or trampolines intended for use on water. Trampolines that adhere to this specification are not recommended for use by children under six years of age. 1.4 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the hazards associated with trampolines. The standard's existence alone will not necessarily prevent injuries. Like other physical activities, trampoline use involves the risk of injury, particularly if the equipment is used improperly. 1.6 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. 1.7 This specification includes the following sections and selected subsections.
