This standard specifies the safety requirements of a two-hand control device and its logic unit as defined in 3.1. This standard describes the main characteristics of two-hand control devices for the achievement of safety and sets out combinations of functional characteristics for three types. This standard does not apply to devices intended to be used as enabling devices, hold to run devices and as special control devices. This standard does not specify with which machines two-hand control devices shall be used. It also does not specify which types of two-hand-control device shall be used. Moreover it does not specify the distance between the two-hand control device and the danger zone (see 9.8). Q The standard provides requirements and guidance on the design and selection (based on a risk assessment) of two-hand control devices including their assessment, the prevention of defeat and the avoidance of faults. The standard also provides requirements and guidance for two-hand control devices containing a programmable electronic system (see 7). This standard applies to all two-hand control devices, independent of the energy used, including: Two-hand control devices which are or are not integral parts of a machine; Two-hand control devices which consist of one or more than one separate elements.

This Directory contains the names of companies authorized to use the UL Mark on or in connection with products that have been investigated by UL and found to be in compliance with UL’s requirements. The appearance of catalog or model numbers or other specific product designations in this Directory signifies that: (1) representative samples of these products have been submitted to UL and found to comply with the applicable requirements, and that (2) the manufacturer has been authorized to use the appropriate UL Mark on production that continues to comply withUL’s requirements and is subject to UL’s Follow-Up Service. Since manufacturers are not obligated to apply the UL Mark on all of their production, products that do not bear the UL Mark are not required by UL to comply with UL’s requirements. Accordingly, the appearance of a company’s name or a specific product designation in this Directory does not in itself ensure that products so specified or identified are subject to UL’s Follow-Up Service. This part of IEC 61496 specifies requirements for the design, construction and testing of electro-sensitive equipment (ESPE) designed specifically to detect persons as part of a safety-related system, employing vision-based protective devices (VBPDs) for the sensing function. Special attention is directed to features which ensure that an appropriate safety-related performance is achieved. An ESPE may include optional safety –related functions, the requirements for which are given in Annex A of IEC 61496-1 and this technical report. This technical report does not specify the dimensions or configurations of the detection zone and its disposition in relation to hazardous parts for any particular application, nor what constitutes a hazardous state of any machine. It is restricted to the functioning of the ESPE and how it interfaces with the machine. • It is limited to automatic vision-based ESPEs that do not require human intervention for detection. • It is limited to automatic vision-based ESPEs that detect objects entering into, or present in, a detection zone(s). • Excluded from this part are VBPD employing radiation at wavelengths outside the range 400 nm to 1 500 nm. • This technical report does not address those aspects required for complex classification or differentiation of the object detected. This technical report may be relevant to applications other than those for the protection of persons, for example the protection of machinery or products from mechanical damage in those applications, additional requirements may be necessary, for example when the materials that are to be recognized by the sensing function have different properties from those of persons. This technical report does not deal with EMC emission requirements.

This part of ISO 13856 gives basic requirements for those pressure-sensitive protective devices, with or without an external reset facility, that are not specified in either ISO 13856-1 or ISO 13856-2, the majority of which are produced for specific applications and are not available as off-the-shelf items. It also gives specific requirements for the following devices: -- pressure-sensitive bumpers; -- pressure-sensitive plates; -- pressure-sensitive wires (trip wires). Its purpose relates primarily to safety and reliability rather than suitability (for the relationship between safety and reliability, see ISO 13849-1:1999, Annex D). It does not specify the dimensions of pressure-sensitive protective devices in relation to any particular application. Specific requirements for particular applications are intended to be set forth in relevant type-C standards (see ISO 12100-1 and the Introduction). This part of ISO 13856 does not cover stopping devices used only for the regular operation (including emergency stopping) of machinery. Nor does it apply to use in locations accessible to elderly or disabled persons or children, where special additional requirements can be necessary.

This test method assists in evaluating the effect of layout, typeface, type size, color, and background on the legibility of printed matter. Previous research3 has shown that results are more significantly impacted by subject age than any other effect. Older subjects tend to require more light when using this instrument. Because subjects age at different rates as a result of lifestyle and genetics, variability of data tends to increase with increasing age. This test method was developed using subjects of ages 19 to 28 years. It is advised that subjects age 19 to 28 be used in cases where variability needs to be kept to a minimum. Testers can compare legibility between various groups of subjects (by age, light intensity, distance, vision characteristics of the subjects) and one against other label configurations within groups of subjects1.1 This test method provides an objective means to comparatively measure the ease of reading printed matter for use in package labeling.1.2 This test method is not intended to quantify the legibility of a printed item against a standard but to compare its legibility against other items. 1.3 This test method uses human subjects to view printed matter mounted in a specialized instrument.1.4 The user of this test method must be aware that results may differ from one age group of subjects to another. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
