This part of ISO 22846 gives the fundamental principles for the use of rope-access methods for work at height. It is intended for use by employers, employees and self-employed persons who use rope-access methods, by those commissioning rope-access work and by rope-access associations. This part of ISO 22846 is applicable to the use of rope-access methods on buildings, other structures (on- or offshore) or natural features (such as cliff faces), during which ropes are suspended from or connected to a structure or natural feature. It is applicable to situations where ropes are used as the primary means of access, egress or support and as the primary means of protection against a fall. This part of ISO 22846 is not intended to apply to the use of rope-access methods for leisure activities, arboriculture, general steeplejack methods or emergency personal-evacuation systems, or to the use of rope-access (line rescue) techniques by the fire brigade and other emergency services for rescue work or for rescue training. Nevertheless, those engaged in other similar activities are likely to benefit from the advice given in this part of ISO 22846, as many of the principles do apply to, and offer good practice for, activities outside this formally defined scope. NOTE This is the first of a planned multi-part series of International Standards for rope access.

This British Standard gives recommendations for the infrastructure, staffing, operation and management of organizations providing stewarding and safety personnel at either indoor or outdoor events. The recommendations of this British Standard do not apply to the provision of security services such as static site guarding and mobile patrol services, and door supervisors/stewards. NOTE Recommendations for static site guarding and mobile patrol services, and door supervisors/stewards are given in BS 7499 and BS 7960 respectively.

This part of ISO 14698 establishes the principles and basic methodology of a formal system of biocontamination control (Formal System) for assessing and controlling biocontamination when cleanroom technology is applied for that purpose. This part of ISO 14698 specifies the methods required for monitoring risk zones in a consistent way and for applying control measures appropriate to the degree of risk involved. In zones where risk is low, it can be used as a source of information. Application-specific requirements are not given. Neither are fire and safety issues addressed; for these, see regulatory requirements and other national or local documentation.

1.1 Purpose8212;The purpose of this guide is to describe a scientific methodology for conducting environmental health site assessments (EHSAs) for military deployments. EHSAs are prepared to evaluate potential environmental exposures that may impact the health of deployed personnel as directed by Presidential Review Directive 5; Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff memorandum MCM-0006-02; and Department of Defense Instruction 6490.3. This guide is intended to assist the user in developing conceptual site models (CSMs) for deployment sites. CSMs are used to define the exposure pathways. The exposure pathways assist in the evaluation of potential health impacts. The goal of this guide is to identify complete and potentially complete exposure pathways that may affect the health of deployed personnel.1.2 This guide provides a series of steps designed to obtain sufficient information to evaluate potential environmental exposures that may affect the health of deployed personnel. It is most applicable when only a limited amount of information about the deployment area is available. If it becomes apparent to the environmental health professional in predeployment planning activities that sufficient information exists to evaluate the health significance of potential environmental exposures, it will not be necessary to complete the data collection activities described in this process. In this event, the environmental health professional will document their justification for not completing the data collection activities. An obvious example would be deployment to a major city in a developed county.1.3 Information generated by this process will be used for environmental health risk assessments. Environmental health risk assessments are beyond the scope of this guide.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory requirements prior to use.

Guidance on the investigation of carbon monoxide poisonings related to fire can be found in NFPA 921, Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. The purpose of this report is to assist the automotive safety designer and tester by providing them with quantitative data on the strength of the human body under impact loading conditions. This report reviews current quantitative data on human tolerance levels without recommending specific limits. Data developed on humans (including cadavers) are presented where available; however, in many cases animal data are provided where no suitable human results have been reported. this report confines itself, as much as possible, to information of direct use to the automotive designer and tester. Data of only academic interest are largely omitted; therefore, J885 should not be considered as a complete summary of all available biomechanical data. Most of the data cited in this report applies to adult males since little information is available on women or children. The summary data provided in the tables should be considered with the accompanying descriptive test. This material explains the manner in which the data were obtained and provides an insight as to their limitations.

The purpose of this European standard is to provide means to enable manufacturers of machinery concerned by a radiation hazard to design and manufacture efficient safeguards against radiations. Specific technical details of the design of shields for the different types of radiation and machines will be provided in other standards. This European standard applies to machinery as defined by EN 292. Part 1 of this standard contains the general principles of risk assessment of radiation emission by machinery. Details of the measurement of the radiation emission are given in Part 2 of this standard. This standard deals with a design strategy for reducing the radiation flux by attenuation or screening.

1.1 General This European Standard specifies particular requirements and information for establishing and maintaining a quality system in accordance with the requirements of Annex IV and Annex VII of Directive 94/9/EC. It is intended for use by manufacturers, notified bodies and regulatory authorities. Therefore, when notified bodies assess the quality systems of manufacturers this document is intended to be the basis of the initial assessment and subsequent visits. 1.2 Application Only those requirements in clause 7 of this European Standard pertaining to the difference between Annex IV and VII of the Directive may be excluded, provided that conformity of the product can still be demonstrated. Permissible exclusions with respect to Annex VII of Directive 94/9/EC are as follows: 7.1 Planning of product realisation; 7.2.3 Customer communication; 7.4 Purchasing; 7.5.1 Control of production and service provision; 7.5.2 Validation of processes for production and service provision; 7.5.3 Identification and traceability. No explicit requirements in Annex IV and VII relate to the concept of “continuous improvement”. As a consequence, references in this European Standard to the requirements of EN ISO 9001:2000 exclude this concept.

This European Standard specifies a method of test to determine the minimum ignition energy of a dust/air mixture by an electrically-generated spark. The test method is not suitable for use with recognised explosives, gunpowder, dynamite, explosives which do not require oxygen for combustion; pyrophoric substances, or substances or mixtures of substances which can under some circumstances behave in a similar manner. Where any doubt exists about the existence of a hazard due to explosive properties, expert advice should be sought. WARNING — It is essential that precautions are taken to safeguard the health of personnel conducting the

This European Standard specifies performance requirements and test methods for the evaluation of procedures for measuring metals and metalloids in airborne particles collected on a suitable substrate, e.g. a filter. This European Standard is not applicable to procedures for measuring metals or metalloids present in inorganic gases or vapours, e.g. mercury, arsine, etc (see EN 838 [1] and EN 1076 [2]), or to procedures for measuring metals and metalloids in compounds that could be present as a particle/vapour mixture, e.g. arsenic trioxide (see ENV 13936 [3]). This European Standard is applicable to measuring procedures in which sampling and analysis is carried out in separate stages, but it does not specify performance requirements for collection, transport and storage of samples, since these are dealt with in EN 13205. This European Standard specifies a method for determining the bias and precision of the analytical method and combining this with the bias and precision of the sampling method to estimate the overall uncertainty of the measuring procedure as a whole. If there is no procedure for measuring a particular metal or metalloid which meets the requirements of this European Standard, it is recommended to use a measuring procedure whose performance is nearest to the specified requirements.
