1.1 These requirements cover concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) modules and assemblies that concentrate light on a target PV cell(s) for use in general and restricted areas in accordance with the unit’s installation instructions. A CPV modlue is defined as any photovoltaic module which uses artificially elevated levels (i.e. concentrated) of solar irradiance to produce electrical energy. 1.2 These requirements address concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) modules and assemblies intended for installation in accordance with their installation instructions on or integral with buildings, or to be freestanding (i.e. ground mounted or otherwise not attached to buildings), in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70, and model building codes. 1.3 The installation class for CPV modules and assemblies identifies the intended installation location as either general access areas designated “General,” or restricted access areas designated “Restricted.” General access units are able to be installed in open areas that may be contacted by the general public. Restricted access units are to be installed in areas that prevent general public access such as a locked and fenced in area. 1.4 These requirements cover CPV modules and assemblies intended for use in systems with a maximum system voltage of 1500 V. Exception: CPV modules that are constructed in the flate plate module format as defined by the Standard for Flat-Plate Photovoltaic Modules and Panels, UL 1703, and with a concentration ratio of no more than 2 times shall be evaluated in accordance with all of the requirements in UL 1703.

This part of IEC 61853 describes requirements for evaluating PV module performance in terms of power (watts) rating over a range of irradiances and temperatures. IEC 61853-2 describes test procedures for measuring the performance effect of angle of incidence; the estimation of module temperature from irradiance, ambient temperature and wind speed; and impact of spectral response on energy production. IEC 61853-3 describes the calculations of PV module energy (watt-hours) ratings. IEC 61853-4 describes the standard time periods and weather conditions that can be utilized for calculating standardized energy ratings. The object of this part of IEC 61853 is to define a testing and rating system, which provides the PV module power (watts) at maximum power operation for a set of defined conditions. A second purpose is to provide a full set of characterization parameters for the module under various values of irradiance and temperature. This set of measurements is required in order to perform the module energy rating described in IEC 61853-3.

Glazed apertures in buildings are commonly utilized for the controlled admission of both light and solar radiant heat energy into the structure. Other devices may also be used to reflect light and solar radiant heat into a building. Most of the solar radiant energy entering a building in this manner possesses wavelengths that lie between 300 and 2500 nm (3000 to 25 000 ?/span>). Only the portion between 380 and 760 nm is visible radiation, however. In daylighting applications, it is therefore important to distinguish the solar radiant energy transmittance and reflectance of these materials from their luminous (visual or photometric) transmittance and reflectance. For comparisons of the energy and illumination performances of building fenestration systems it is important that the calculation or measurement, or both, of solar radiant and luminous transmittance and reflectance of materials used in fenestration systems use the same incident solar spectral irradiance distribution. Solar luminous transmittance and reflectance are important properties in describing the performance of components of solar illumination systems (for example, windows, clerestories, skylights, shading and reflecting devices) and other fenestrations that permit the passage of daylight as well as solar energy into buildings. This practice is useful for determining the luminous transmittance and reflectance of glazing materials and diffusely or quasi-diffusely reflecting materials used in daylighting systems. For the results of this practice to be meaningful, inhomogeneities or corrugations in the sample must not be large. Test Method E1175 (or Test Method E972) is available for sheet materials that do not satisfy this criterion.1.1 This practice describes the calculation of luminous (photometric) transmittance and reflectance of materials from spectral radiant transmittance and reflectance data obtained from Test Method E903. 1.2 Determination of luminous transmittance by this practice is preferred over measurement of photometric transmittance by methods using the sun as a source and a photometer as detector except for transmitting sheet materials that are inhomogeneous, patterned, or corrugated. 1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

This International Standard establishes minimum requirements for the functioning and performance of battery charge controllers (BCC) used with lead acid batteries in terrestrial photovoltaic (PV) systems. The main aims are to ensure BCC reliability and to maximise the life of the battery. This standard shall be used in conjunction with IEC 62093, which describes test and requirements for intended installation application. In addition to the battery charge control functions, this Standard addresses the following battery charge control features: · photovoltaic generator charging of a battery, · load control, · protection functions, · interface functions. This standard does not cover MPPT performance, but it is applicable to BCC units that have this feature. This standard defines functional and performance requirements for battery charge controllers and provides tests to determine the functioning and performance characteristics of charge controllers. It is considered that IEC 62093 is used to determine the construction requirements for the intended installation which includes but is not limited to aspects such as the enclosure, physical connection sturdiness and safety. This standard was written for lead acid battery applications. It is not limited in terms of the BCC capacity to which it may be applied, however, the requirements for test equipment when applied to BCC with high voltage or current, for example, greater than 120 V or 100 A, may be difficult to achieve. These approaches may be applicable to other power sources and other battery technologies like Ni-Cd batteries by using the corresponding values of cell voltages.
