Dieses Dokument legt ein allgemeines Verfahren zum Bestimmen der mittleren Molmasse und der Molmassenverteilung von Polymeren (siehe Literaturhinweis [1]) in einem Molmassenbereich von 2 000 g ⋅ mol−1 bis 20 000 g ⋅ mol−1 durch die matrixunterstützte Laser-Desorptions/Ionisations-FlugzeitMassenspektrometrie (MALDI-TOF-MS) fest. Die mittleren Molmassen und Molmassenverteilungen werden über eine Kalibrierkurve berechnet, die mit Hilfe von synthetischen und/oder Biopolymerstandards erstellt wird. Daher handelt es sich um eine relative Methode. Das Verfahren ist nicht für Polyolefine oder Polymere mit einer Polydispersität > 1,2 anwendbar.

This part of ISO 29988 specifies the methods of preparation of test specimens and the test methods to be used in determining the properties of polyoxymethylene moulding and extrusion materials. Requirements for handling test material and for conditioning both the test material before moulding and the specimens before testing are given. Procedures and conditions are described for the preparation of test specimens, and procedures are given for measuring properties of the materials from which these specimens are made. Properties and test methods which are suitable and necessary to characterize polyoxymethylene moulding and extrusion materials are listed. The properties have been selected from the general test methods in ISO 10350-1:1998. Other test methods in wide use for, or of particular significance to, these moulding and extrusion materials are also included in this part of ISO 29988 as designatory properties specified in ISO 29988-1: melt flow rate and tensile modulus. In order to obtain reproducible and comparable test results, it is necessary to use the methods of specimen preparation and conditioning. The specimen dimensions and the test procedures are specified herein. Values determined will not necessarily be identical to those obtained using specimens of different dimensions or prepared using different procedures.

This part of the standard establishes a system of designation for polyoxymethylene (POM) thermoplastic materials, which may be used as the basis for specifications. Polyoxymethylene materials are thermoplastic materials composed principally of long-chain synthetic homopolymers and copolymers of formaldehyde. The repeating unit in the molecular chain is - CH20 - as an integral part of the main polymer chain resulting from polymerization of formaldehyde.

This document specifies the principles for determining the fracture toughness of plastics in the crackopening mode (mode I) under defined conditions. Two test methods with cracked specimens are defined, namely three-point-bending tests and compact-specimen tensile tests in order to suit different types of equipment available or different types of material. The methods are suitable for use with the following range of materials, including their compounds containing short fibres of the length ≤ 7,5 mm: — rigid and semi-rigid thermoplastic moulding, extrusion and casting materials; — rigid and semi-rigid thermosetting moulding and casting materials. In general, short fibre lengths of 0,1 mm to 7,5 mm are known to cause heterogeneity and anisotropy in the crack tip fracture process zone. Therefore, where relevant, Annex B offers some guidelines to extend the application of the same testing procedure, with some reservations, to rigid and semi-rigid thermoplastic or thermosetting plastics containing such short fibres. Certain restrictions on the linearity of the load-displacement diagram, on the specimen width and on the thickness are imposed to ensure validity (see 6.4) since the scheme used assumes linear elastic behaviour of the cracked material and a state of plane strain at the crack tip. Finally, the crack needs to be sharp enough so that an even sharper crack does not result in significantly lower values of the measured properties.

This document describes a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method for determining the concentrations of cyclic oligomers of caprolactam, from 0,01 % by mass upwards, and linear oligomers of caprolactam, from 5 mg/kg upwards, both up to and including the hexamer of caprolactam (n = 6), in samples of polyamide 6, caprolactam and mixtures of rearrangement products in water. A second, significantly faster, HPLC method is included for determination of caprolactam and its cyclic dimer, based on the same principle and using the same equipment as the first method.

This document provides a structure for inclusion of environmental aspects in standards for plastics products. It proposes an approach which is directed at minimizing any adverse environmental impact without detracting from the primary purpose of ensuring adequate fitness for use of the products under consideration. The guidance provided by this document is intended primarily for use by standards writers. Over and above its primary purpose, however, this document provides guidance of value to those involved in design work and other activities where environmental aspects of plastics are being considered. NOTE This document is intended to promote the following practices: a)    the use of techniques for identifying and assessing the environmental impact of technical provisions in standards, and for minimizing their adverse effects; b)   the adoption of good practices such as: 1)   procedures for pollution avoidance, e.g. through end-of-life options and its proper management; 2)   material and energy conservation in the light of the intended use (and foreseeable misuse) of the product; 3)   safe use of hazardous substances; 4)   avoidance of technically unjustifiable restrictive practices; 5)   promotion of performance criteria rather than exclusion clauses such as are based, for example, only on chemical composition criteria; 6)    use of renewable resources and minimization of the use of non-renewable resources, if the life cycle assessment shows favourable; c)    the adoption of a balanced approach in standards development to issues such as environmental impact, product function and performance, health and safety, and other regulatory requirements; d)    the regular review and revision of existing standards in the light of technical innovations, permitting improvement in the environmental impact of products and processes; e)   the application of life cycle analytical approaches wherever applicable and technically justifiable.
