This European Standard describes a test method to determine ability of a cured adhesive (possibly with a primer) to adhere to a substrate which has had a certain surface finish or with a specific surface preparation by using the "three point bending method". It is only used for quality assurance and the substrate should be rigid or resistant enough to bending such as steel or aluminium alloys. For other substrates the thickness should be adjusted to the modulus of elasticity or a suitable stiffener should be used. The adhesive should be polymerisable (curable) without pressure in order to obtain the thickness needed to provide sufficient rigidity, otherwise, a bonded reinforcing piece of the same type and same thickness as the substrate can be substituted for the bloc of adhesive. It is not suitable for film adhesives.

This European Standard specifies a method for determining the bond strength of a butt joint when subjected to tensile force. The method can be applied to all types of adhesives. Although primarily intended for use under ambient conditions, the basic method can also be applied to testing under a wide range of temperature and other environmental conditions. This European Standard specifies a procedure for the determination of volatile isocyanates in the exhaust air of an emission test chamber after application of a low-solvent or solvent-free adhesive as defined in EN 923. The method is based on chemosorption of volatile isocyanates with 1-(2-methoxyphenyl) piperazine (in the following: 1-2MP) impregnated filters with subsequent desorption and liquid chromatographic analysis. The method permits measurement of a wide range of organic compounds containing isocyanate functional groups (NCO), including isocyanate monomers. For testing of adhesives emissions mainly toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and methylene bis (4-phenyl isocyanate also known as 4,4-diisocyanato-diphenylmethane or MDI), are of concern. The method as described in this European Standard can be used for other isocyanates too, such as isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) and 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) - see ISO 16702. Isocyanate oligomers or prepolymers are not volatile enough to be detected in emission test chambers at room temperature.

This European Standard specifies a procedure for the determination of volatile aldehydes (especially formaldehyde and acetaldehyde) and other carbonyl compounds in the exhaust air of an emission test chamber after application of a low-solvent or solvent-free adhesive as defined in EN 923. The method is based on chemosorption of volatile carbonyl compounds with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (in the following: DNPH) impregnated silica tubes or cartridges with subsequent solvent desorption, clean-up and liquid chromatographic analysis. The method permits measurement of several aldehydes including formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, propionaldehyde, butyraldehyde, valeraldehyde, isovaleraldehyde, hexanal, benzaldehyde, 2,5-dimethylbenzaldehyde, o-tolualdehyde, m-tolualdehyde, p-tolualdehyde, crotonaldehyde in the concentration range of approximately 10 µg/m3 to 1 mg/m3 (see ISO 16000-3).

1.1 This specification covers asphalt-rubber binder, consisting of a blend of paving grade asphalt cements, ground recycled tire (that is, vulcanized) rubber and other additives, as needed, for use as binder in pavement construction. The rubber shall be blended and interacted in the hot asphalt cement sufficiently to cause swelling of the rubber particles prior to use. Note 18212;It has been found that at least 15 % rubber by weight of the total blend is usually necessary to provide acceptable properties of asphalt-rubber. 1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Selection of or development of a carpet adhesive, for direct glue or adhered applications requires knowledge of the adhesive's ability to perform adequately when it is found necessary to correct an installation concern, such as bubbles or wrinkles, by re-rolling or application of dead weight to the affected area without the application or injection of additional adhesive. Adhesive bonding of some carpet backings to substrates and the adhesive bonding of carpet backings to a pad foundation, double stick or glue application, require that prior to bonding the adhesive is to be dried sufficiently to allow for no transfer of adhesive as a result of slight finger pressure.1.1 This practice will provide a protocol for determining the effect of extended drying (open time) periods on the shear and peel strength performance of a carpet adhesive when bonding a carpet backing or standard duck cloth material to a substrate. 1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard.
