This International Standard specifies three methods for the determination of the volume of gas diffusing through a rubber or plastics hose or length of tubing in a specified time. Method 1: For determining the permeability of the complete hose or length of tubing, excluding endfittings, to the test gas. The permeability is calculated with respect to the length of the hose or tubing. Method 2: For determining the permeability at the hose/fitting interface. This method is used when determining the permeability characteristics of hoses with an unpricked cover, when the gas usually issues from the textile reinforcement at the cut ends. The permeability is calculated with respect to the length of the hose. Method 3: For determining precisely the permeability of a hose or hose assembly to the test gas. The permeability is calculated with respect to the surface area of the hose lining. The methods are applicable only to gases which are insoluble in water. NOTE 1 Although the results are expressed in the same units for methods 1 and 2, the results obtained will not necessarily be comparable in the case of unpricked and pricked hoses intended for the same application as the test times specified are different and the permeability could therefore vary. NOTE 2 Method 3 is the preferred method.

This International Standard describes two categories of hose impulse testing without flexing for rubber or plastic hose assemblies. Category 1 is high pressure testing for test pressures greater than 3 MPa and Category 2 is for test pressures from 1, 5 MPa through 3 MPa. The test procedure is applicable to hydraulic hose assemblies that are subject to pulsating pressures in service and are contained within the product requirements.

1.1 This specification covers requirements and test methods for the characterization of polyamide 12 pipe, tubing, and fittings for use in fuel gas mains and services for direct burial and reliner applications. The pipe and fittings covered by this specification are intended for use in the distribution of natural gas. 1.1.1 This specification does not cover threaded pipe. This practice specifies the water pressure and duration of application of the hose stream to the test assembly. This practice is intended to be used only after a test assembly has completed a prescribed standard fire-resistance test. The practice exposes a test assembly to a standard hose stream under controlled laboratory conditions. Pass/fail criteria are defined in the appropriate fire test method. This exposure is not intended to replicate typical fire fighting operations or all applied or impact loads a system could be subjected to in field use and conditions. Any variation from tested conditions has the potential of substantially changing the performance characteristics determined by this practice.1.1 This practice is applicable to building elements required to be subjected to the impact, erosion, and cooling effects of a hose stream as part of a fire-test-response standard. Building elements include, but are not limited to, wall and partition assemblies, fire-resistive joint systems, and doors. 1.2 This practice shall register performance of the building element under specific hose stream conditions. It shall not imply that, either after exposure or under other conditions, the structural capability of the building element is intact or that the building element is suitable for use. 1.3 The result derived from this practice is one factor in assessing the integrity of building elements after fire exposure.
