This standard provides industrywide procedures for the use and inspection of uninsulated cryogenic hose (also referred to as cryogenic hose or hose). It is a guide for cargo tank hose users when they establish inspection procedures. It contains acceptance criteria appropriate for use during product transfers and routine mainte- nance. It represents the best currently available industry practice, but does not cover every possible hose de- sign, installation, and lading. Each user can apply this standard to suit individual installation and conditions of service. Acceptance for continued service in accordance with this standard does not guarantee that a hose or coupling assembly is not dangerous or cannot fail. This standard does not apply to vacuum-insulated hose or composite hose.

The Compressed Gas Association has prepared this standard as a guide for cargo tank hose users in establishing their own hose requalification procedures and standards in carbon dioxide refrigerated liquid transfer service applications. This publication is primarily written for elastomer carbon dioxide hoses, but the general inspections may be applied to hoses for other commodities. It should be understood that this is a minimum standard and may not cover all circumstances for every hose installation and lading. Each user can expect to modify this minimum standard to suit the user's own installation and conditions of service. Acceptance for continued service in accordance with these limits does not guarantee that a hose or coupling assembly is not danger~us or without the possibility of impending failure. These procedures represent the best currently available industry practice. This standard is recommended as being limited in application to hose of the following characteristics: having an inner tube of natural or synthetic elastomer using reinforcement material consisting of a ply or plies of textile fabric or yarn and/or metal wire braid and enveloped with an outer protective cover; and internal diameters from 1/4 in to 4 in (6.4 mm to 102 mm) and maximum rated working pressures from over 125 psig (860 kPa) up to and including 500 psig (3450 kPa) See CGA G-6.6, Standard for Elastomer-Type Carbon Dioxide Bulk Transfer Hose, for additional information concerning construction of hoses to which this standard applies [5]. Standards for the requalification of Iow pressure hose having 125 psig (860 kPa) and lower maximum rated working pressures used in services such as the transfer of flammable liquids and combustible liquids should be obtained from the appropriate standards sources. In add tion, cryogenic liquids and certain compressed gases such as chlorine require the use of metal hose or hose with metal liners, and users should refer to the specified industry standards or to the manufacturers of such hose with regard to recommendations for reinspection and retesting procedures.

1.1 This practice is applicable to building elements required to be subjected to the impact, erosion, and cooling effects of a hose stream as part of a fire-test-response standard. Building elements include, but are not limited to, wall and partition assemblies, fire-resistive joint systems, and doors.1.2 This practice shall register performance of the building element under specific hose stream conditions. It shall not imply that, either after exposure or under other conditions, the structural capability of the building element is intact or that the building element is suitable for use.1.3 The result derived from this practice is one factor in assessing the integrity of building elements after fire exposure. The practice prescribes a standard hose stream exposure for comparing performance of building elements after fire exposure and evaluates various materials and construction techniques under common conditions.1.4 Units The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the practice. Adequate adhesion between the various components of a hose is essential if it is to perform satisfactorily in service. This International Standard specifies methods for the determination of the adhesion between lining and reinforcement, between cover and reinforcement, between reinforcement layers, between cover and outer lamination (thin layer of material outside the cover for protection) and between lining and inner lamination (thin layer of material inside the lining to reduce permeation of fluid into the lining). This International Standard specifies methods of test for determining general physical and mechanical properties of rubber threads, as well as specific mechanical properties of such threads in contact with fabrics. Owing to the comparatively small cross-section and the unusual conditions of service of this material, certain special methods have been developed. Some of the tests included in this International Standard may not be entirely suitable for threads made from certain synthetic rubbers (e.g. urethane rubber). These tests are intended for natural or synthetic polyisoprene rubbers. It is pointed out that comparisons may only be made on new rubber threads or on those with identical processing histories. In the interpretation of results from threads which have been subjected to spooling, fabrication or any other process, it should be borne in mind that the previous history is important, and what is known of this and of any relaxation treatments used shall be stated in the test report.

This International Standard specifies five methods for determining the ozone resistance of the outer covers of hoses: ⎯ method 1, for bore sizes up to and including 25 mm, carried out on the hose itself; ⎯ method 2, for bore sizes greater than 25 mm, carried out on a test piece from the hose wall; ⎯ method 3, for bore sizes greater than 25 mm, carried out on a test piece from the cover; ⎯ method 4, for all bore sizes, carried out on the hose itself; ⎯ method 5, for all bore sizes, carried out on hoses that are expandable, for example textile-reinforced hoses. NOTE For hoses with built-in fittings from which it is not possible to take test pieces, the ozone resistance may be assessed on slabs in accordance with ISO 1431-1, using test sheets of the appropriate polymeric compound vulcanized to the same degree.

This International Standard specifies the sizes of rubber and plastics hoses and the minimum and maximum inside diameters permitted for each hose size. For this purpose, hoses are divided into four types according to the process by which they are manufactured. The standard also specifies tolerances on cut-to-length rubber and plastics hoses for industrial and automotive applications. This standard is intended to be used with the relevant hoses product standard unless there is justification for using a different hose size or unless a hose size needs a different inside-diameter range for a particular application.
