1.1 This test method covers the determination of the iodine adsorption number of carbon black. 1.1.1 Procedure A is the original procedure for this determination. 1.1.2 Procedure B specifies an increased sample mass of carbon black and volume of iodine solution (the ratio is the same as in Procedure A) which results in a simplified formula for the calculation of the iodine number. 1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

1.1 This test method is intended to evaluate the performance of virgin, newly impregnated or in-service, granular or pelletized activated carbon for the removal of hydrogen sulfide from an air stream. A humidified air stream containing 1 % (by volume) hydrogen sulfide is passed through a carbon bed until 50 ppm breakthrough of H2S is observed. The H2S adsorption capacity of the carbon per unit volume at 99.5 % removal efficiency (g H2S/cm3 carbon) is then calculated. This test is not necessarily applicable to non-carbon adsorptive materials.1.2 This standard as written is applicable only to granular and pelletized activated carbons with mean particle diameters (MPD) less than 2.5 mm. See paragraph 5.3 if activated carbons with larger MPDs are to be tested.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

1.1 This test method describes the determination of the water wash sieve residue in regular untreated carbon blacks. It may not be applicable to oil-treated carbon blacks because the oil would prevent proper wetting of the black by water. 1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values in parentheses are for information only. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. For specific precautionary statements, see Section 6.

1.1 This classification system is used to classify rubber grade carbon blacks by the use of a four-character nomenclature system. The first character gives some indication of the influence of the carbon black on the rate of cure of a typical rubber compound containing the black. The second character gives information on the average surface area of the carbon black. The last two characters are assigned arbitrarily. 1.2 All rubber-grade carbon blacks for which a number is currently assigned at the time of publication of this classification system are listed in Table 1 together with some of their typical properties. 1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

This part of ISO 12985 specifies a dimensions method for the determination of the apparent density of carbonaceous products used in the production of aluminium. This method is applicable to samples with a simple or well-defined geometry (cylindrical, rectangular parallelepipedical, cubic, etc.) and having a smooth surface profile. The accuracy of measurement is strongly influenced by the equipment used for sampling, i.e. the drilling and sawing machines.

This part of ISO 12985 specifies a hydrostatic method for the determination of the apparent density and the open (to water) porosity of carbonaceous products used in the production of aluminium. This hydrostatic method was developed principally to determine the open porosity but can also be used to measure the apparent density. This part of ISO 12985 is especially applicable to samples of complex on irregular geometry (due to drilling difficulties).

This part of ISO 12986 describes a method for the determination of the bending/shear strength (flexural strength) of prebaked anodes and cathode blocks at temperatures in the range 20 ℃ to 30 ℃. The method is particularly appli-cable to prebaked anodes, but can be applied to cathode blocks. NOTE For the practical application of this International Standard the terms 'bending/shear strength' and 'flexural strength' may be considered equivalent.

The carbon black content of an unvulcanized black or oil-black SBR masterbatch may be determined by this test method if an inert (CO2) atmosphere and a determinate (see Note 2) of known carbon black content are available. Note 28212;Determinate black masterbatch may be prepared by careful addition of exact amounts of rubber and carbon black on a mill. An alternative would be a thorough blending of a quantity of black masterbatch and determination of the carbon black by use of a previously established determinate.1.1 These test methods for the determination of the amount of carbon black in a masterbatch cover emulsion SBR-carbon black mixtures, but may be applicable to other polymers.
