1.1 This practice describes the procedure for the preparation of single and double-sided contaminated metallic test coupons for the evaluation of cleaning agents. It is applicable for the evaluation of cleaning agents proposed for the cleaning of oxygen-enriched systems and components. It also is applicable to other systems where contamination is a concern. 1.2 Several classes of contaminants most likely to be found in oxygen-enriched systems and components are identified. However, if the user of this practice has identified contaminants not included in these classes, such identified contaminants may be substituted for the preparation of the test coupons. 1.3 Preparation of nonmetallic substrates is not addressed, although similar methodology may be used. Solvent and cleaning agent compatibility with the nonmetallic substrate should be verified prior to the preparation of the test coupons. Typical nonmetallic materials utilized in oxygen systems are contained in Guide G63. 1.4 This practice may involve hazardous materials, operations, and equipment. This practice does not purport to address all of the safety problems associated with its use. It is the responsibility of whomever uses this practice to consult and establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

This practice will be suitable to direct the preparation of test coupons with a known amount of contaminant on the surface. A standard test coupon is described and a list of contaminants that have typically been found in oxygen-enriched systems and components is provided. These coupons shall be used in the evaluation of cleaning agents for oxygen-enriched systems and components. This will permit direct comparison within and between test facilities. Materials used in other fluid handling systems such as nitrogen, helium, hydrogen, gasoline, etc. may also be prepared for evaluation by this practice.1.1 This practice describes the procedure for the preparation of single- and double-sided contaminated metallic test coupons for the evaluation of cleaning agents. 1.1 This guide covers the use of chemical cleaning agents on oiled shorelines. This guide is not applicable to other chemical agents nor to the use of such products in open waters. 1.2 The purpose of this guide is to provide information that will enable spill responders to decide whether to use chemical shoreline cleaning agents as part of the oil spill cleanup response. 1.3 This is a general guide only. It is assumed that conditions at the spill site have been assessed and that these conditions are suitable for the use of cleaning agents. It is assumed that permission has been obtained to use the chemical agents. Variations in the behavior of different types of oil are not dealt with in this guide and may change some of the parameters noted herein. 1.4 This guide covers two different types of shoreline cleaners: those that disperse oil into the water and those that disperse little oil into the water under low energy levels. The selection criteria for these two types can differ widely. This guide does not cover dispersants. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

This European Standard specifies a method for the determination of up to approximately 2 milli-equivalents of tertiary amine oxide. Components which lose their basicity in reaction with acetic anhydride by forming an amide (e.g. primary and secondary amines) interfere. If present, these primary and secondary amines should be determined by a different procedure e.g. reaction with carbon sulfide. The method is applicable to solids or to aqueous solutions of the active material. The molecular mass of the amine oxide shall be known if its content is expressed as a percentage of mass.

This European Standard specifies a method for the colorimetric characterization of optically clear, slightly tinted liquids (products) by broad-band measurement of pure transmittance with tristimulus value measuring filters as TX, TY and TZ. Since the tristimulus value measuring filters of simple tristimulus colorimeters meet the Luther condition to a limited extent only it is necessary to deliberately restrict the liquids (products) to slightly tinted ones in order to be able to measure them sufficiently exactly with a single calibration against uncoloured distilled water. If the colour of heavily coloured solutions is measured with simple tristimulus colorimeters, it is necessary to calibrate the instrument with a spectrometrically measured standard of very similar colour.

The purpose of this test method is to define a procedure for evaluating the capability of cleaning agents to clean metallic coupons. Based on the outcome of the testing, suitable cleaning agents may be selected for cleaning in general and for oxygen service in particular. The cleaning parameters can be changed and the test method can be repeated. The usual cleaning parameters include cleaning agent concentration, temperature, and time; type and strength of ultrasonic energy or agitation, if used, and others. Note 18212;Usual cleaning parameters are based on the manufacturerrsquo;recommendations.1.1 This test method covers a procedure for evaluating the capability of cleaning agents and processes to remove contamination to the desired level.1.2 The test coupons provide a relatively rough surface to which contamination can easily adhere.1.3 The capability of a particular cleaning agent depends upon the method by which it is used and the characteristics of the article being cleaned, such as size, shape, and material. Final evaluation of the cleaning agent should include testing of actual products and production process.1.4 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. Specific precautionary statements are given in Note 2.
