The IEC 61915 series is intended to improve interoperability of devices, network tools and application software. This part of IEC 61915 defines a framework for common representation of networked industrial devices and provides a template for documenting such a representation, independent of the network used. This framework follows the principles given in IEC/TR 62390, the "Common automation device - Profile guideline", and refers to ISO 15745, "Industrial automation systems and integration - Open systems application integration framework". NOTE I The device profile format specified in this part of lEC 61915 is compatible with devices connected to both bit-and byte-oriented networks. This part of IEC 61915 applies to root device profiles, generic device profiles, and specific device profiles. The root device profiles will be published in subsequent parts of the IEC 61915 series. NOTE2 This International Standard is specifically intended for products covered by the lEC 60947 series. NOTE3 Organisations such as consortia are encouraged to use the rules defined in this part of IEC61915 to develop generic device profiles for use within their own organisations. Users (product manufacturers and other organizations) should use the root device profiles together with the rules defined in this part of IEC61915. This part of IEC61915 allows users to make extensions to the root device profiles and/or generic device profiles. Where no suitable root device profile exists, the user may develop generic or specific device profiles using the rules defined in this part of IEC 61915. This part of IEC 61915 recommends the use of a profile exchange language for representation of the device profile information in order to facilitate the profile's use by network tools and application softwa re. NOTE 4 The types of devices may vary from simple devices, such as pilot lights, push-buttons and limit switches, to more complex devices with many bytes of information, such as motor controllers, semiconductor motor starters, etc.

This Part of BS 1363 specifies requirements, with particular reference to safety in normal use, for 13 A, fused, conversion plugs for household, commercial and light industrial purposes. The scope of the standard covers two-pole plus earth conversion plugs that are either reusable or non-reusable and that are suitable for the connection of non-BS 1363 type plugs, conforming to a recognized standard, to socket-outlets conforming to BS 1363-2. The scope of this standard is limited to devices with the following characteristics: • that have insulating sleeves on line and neutral pins; • that have one plug portion and one set of contacts intended to connect to a non-BS 1363 type plug that conforms to the dimensional requirements of a standard listed in IEC TR 60083; • that are suitable for the connection of electrical equipment in a.c. circuits only, operating at voltages not exceeding 250 V r.m.s. at 50 Hz; • that may have the un-terminated metal earth pin replaced with a similarly dimensioned insulated shutter opening device (ISOD) designed to operate the shutter mechanism of a socket-outlet conforming to BS 1363-2. NOTE A metal earth pin can be brass, copper, phosphor-bronze or other metal at least equivalent with regard to its conductivity, resistance to abrasion, and resistance to corrosion. Two categories of conversion plugs are specified, covering normal and rough use. Conversion plugs specified in this standard are intended for the connection of loads to socket outlets; they are not intended for the connection of electrical power generators to socket outlets. Conversion plugs incorporating switches, transformers, thermostats, or other control means are outside the scope of this Part of BS 1363. This standard also does not cover: • non-BS 1363 type conversion plugs, i.e. with a contact set to fit 13 A plugs, and a male plug portion suitable for a non-BS 1363 type socket outlet; or • adaptors (as to which, see BS 1363-3).

1.1 This Standard covers insulated multi-pole mating or non-mating splicing wire connectors intended for field wiring and factory wiring for use in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, in Canada, and NFPA 70, National Electrical Code, in the United States. 1.2 These wire connectors are intended to facilitate the connection of devices, such as prefabricated wiring assemblies, smoke detectors, and lighting products, to the branch circuit conductors of buildings. 1.3 These wire connectors may additionally be used internal to luminaries to facilitate replacement of the ballast and may not be directly attached to the branch circuit conductors. These wire connectors are suitable for one or more conductors per contact. 1.4 These wire connectors are suitable for use with 30 to 6 AWG (0.05 to 13.3 mm2) stranded copper conductors and 30 to 10 AWG (0.05 to 5.3 mm2) solid copper conductors. 1.5 These wire connectors are suitable for currents not exceeding the ampacity of insulated conductors or as rated by the manufacturer. 1.6 These wire connectors are suitable for voltages not exceeding 600 V. 1.7 This Standard does not apply to (a) splicing wire connectors intended for direct burial; (b) insulated splicing wire connectors intended for use at voltage levels exceeding 600 V (1000 V in a sign or luminaire); (c) terminal wire connectors; (d) wire binding screw terminals; (e) built-in terminal connectors on devices having integral cable clamps; (f) flat quick-connect terminals; (g) devices, such as wire connectors and soldering lugs, that are covered by (i) CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 65 or UL 486A-486B; (ii) CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 188 or UL 486C; or (iii) UL 486E; (h) devices, such as quick-connect terminals, that are covered by CSA C22.2 No. 153 or UL 310; (i) devices covered by CSA C22.2 No. 182.3 or UL 1977; and (j) devices, such as pin and sleeve connectors, that are covered by CSA C22.2 No. 182.1 or UL 1682.

1.1 These requirements cover power outlets, with or without integral mounting posts or pedestals, and power outlet fittings for use in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70. 1.2 A power outlet covered by these requirements, although not restricted to such use, is intended for use: a) At outdoor locations such as on farms, at building sites, and the like, where power is required to operate portable, mobile, or temporarily installed equipment, b) To supply power to a mobile home or a recreational vehicle, and c) To supply shore power to boats. 1.3 A power outlet may contain: a) Attachment plug receptacles, b) Circuit breakers, c) Fuseholders, d) Fused switches and facilities for watt-hour meters, and e) Provisions for field installed circuit breakers or switches and fuses. 1.4 Power outlet fittings covered by these requirements are intended for factory or field assembly into or in conjunction with power outlets designed for such assembly. Fittings may be panels or combination units incorporating receptacles, disconnecting means, overcurrent protection or other devices that have been determined to be equivalent. A separable mounting post or pedestal to which power outlets are to be mounted is also a fitting. 1.5 In addition to or instead of mounting to a post or pedestal fitting as mentioned in 1.4, a power outlet may be constructed for mounting on and connection to a mounting post or pedestal also designed to be used with other types of distribution equipment. 1.6 Some power outlets may have special features and markings to indicate their acceptability for use as service equipment. 1.7 A power outlet with a mounting post is intended for mounting in concrete. A power outlet with a mounting pedestal is intended for mounting on a concrete slab. Unless marked otherwise, a mounting post or pedestal fitting is not intended to serve as the sole support of a mast for overhead wiring.
