This PAS describes circular M12-connectors typically used for industrial process measurement and control. These connectors consist of fixed and free connectors with screwlocking as well as adaptors. This part of IEC 60947 applies to inductive and capacitive proximity switches that sense the presence of metallic and/or non-metallic objects, ultrasonic proximity switches that sense the presence of sound reflecting objects, photoelectric proximity switches that sense the presence of objects and non-mechanical magnetic proximity switches that sense the presence of objects with a magnetic field. These proximity switches are self-contained, have semiconductor switching elements(s) and are intended to be connected to circuits, the rated voltage of which does not exceed 250 V 50 Hz/60 Hz a.c. or 300 V d.c. This Part 2-4 of IEC 60884 applies to plugs, fixed or portable socket-outlets, and to socketoutlets for appliances from 6 V up to and including 48 V d.c. or a.c. (50/60 Hz) SELV with rated current of 16 A, intended for household and similar purposes, either indoors or outdoors. NOTE 1 The extension of this standard to higher frequencies is under consideration. This standard does not cover requirements for flush mounting boxes; it covers only those requirements for surface-type mounting boxes which are necessary for the tests on the socketoutlet. This standard also applies to plugs and socket-outlets incorporated in cord extension sets or integrated in or incorporated in appliances or intended to be fixed to them. NOTE 2 A socket-outlet integrated in an appliance or equipment is a socket-outlet which is formed by the housing of the appliance or equipment. A socket-outlet incorporated in an appliance or equipment is a separate socket-outlet built in or fixed to an appliance or equipment. In addition, socket-outlets for appliances or equipment must comply with IEC 60884-2-2. This standard does not apply to – plugs, socket-outlets and couplers for industrial purposes; – appliance couplers; – fixed socket-outlets combined with fuses, automatic switches, etc. Plugs and fixed or portable socket-outlets complying with this standard are suitable for use at ambient temperatures not normally exceeding 25 °C, but occasionally reaching 35 °C. NOTE 3 Socket-outlets complying with this standard are only suitable for incorporation in equipment in such a way and in such a place that it is unlikely that the surrounding temperature exceeds 35 °C. In locations where special conditions prevail, such as in ships, vehicles and the like, and in hazardous locations, for example where explosions are liable to occur, special constructions may be required.

The IEC 61915 series is intended to improve interoperability of devices, network tools and application software. This part of IEC 61915 defines a framework for common representation of networked industrial devices and provides a template for documenting such a representation, independent of the network used. This framework follows the principles given in IEC/TR 62390, the “Common automation device – Profile guideline”, and refers to ISO 15745, “Industrial automation systems and integration – Open systems application integration framework”. NOTE 1 The device profile format specified in this part of IEC 61915 is compatible with devices connected to both bit- and byte-oriented networks. This part of IEC 61915 applies to root device profiles, generic device profiles, and specific device profiles. The root device profiles will be published in subsequent parts of the IEC 61915 series. NOTE 2 This International Standard is specifically intended for products covered by the IEC 60947 series. NOTE 3 Organisations such as consortia are encouraged to use the rules defined in this part of IEC 61915 to develop generic device profiles for use within their own organisations. Users (product manufacturers and other organizations) should use the root device profiles together with the rules defined in this part of IEC 61915. This part of IEC 61915 allows users to make extensions to the root device profiles and/or generic device profiles. Where no suitable root device profile exists, the user may develop generic or specific device profiles using the rules defined in this part of IEC 61915. This part of IEC 61915 recommends the use of a profile exchange language for representation of the device profile information in order to facilitate the profile’s use by network tools and application software. NOTE 4 The types of devices may vary from simple devices, such as pilot lights, push-buttons and limit switches, to more complex devices with many bytes of information, such as motor controllers, semiconductor motor starters, etc.

This part of IEC 60320 is applicable to two-pole appliance couplers for a.c. only, with or without earthing contact, with a rated voltage not exceeding 250 V and a rated current not exceeding 16 A, for household and similar general purposes and intended for the connection of a supply cord to electrical appliances or other electrical equipment for 50 Hz or 60 Hz supply. NOTE 1 Appliance inlets integrated or incorporated in appliances or other equipment are within the scope of this standard. The dimensional and general requirements of this standard apply to such inlets, but certain tests may not be relevant. NOTE 2 The requirements for connectors are based on the assumption that the temperature of the pins of the corresponding appliance inlets does not exceed 70 °C for connectors for cold conditions; 120 °C for connectors for hot conditions; 155 °C for connectors for very hot conditions. NOTE 3 Appliance couplers complying with this standard are suitable for use at ambient temperatures not normally exceeding 25 °C, but occasionally reaching 35 °C. NOTE 4 Appliance couplers complying with the standard sheets in this standard are intended for the connection of equipment having no special protection against moisture. If appliance couplers are used with equipment which may be subject to spillage of liquid in normal use then protection against moisture is to be provided by the equipment. This International Standard applies to interfaces between low-voltage switchgear, controlgear, and controllers (e.g. programmable controllers, personal computers, etc.). This standard does not apply to higher level industrial communication networks that have become known as fieldbuses and are considered by IEC subcommittee 65C. The purpose of this standard is to harmonize and define rules, components and requirements of a general nature applicable to industrial CDIs. Those features of the various CDI standards which can be considered as general have therefore been brought together in this part of IEC 62026. For each CDI, two main documents are necessary to determine all requirements and tests: a) this part, referred to as “IEC 62026-1” or “Part 1” in the relevant CDI parts covering the various types of CDIs; b) the specific CDI part of the IEC 62026 series. A specific CDI part may omit a general requirement if it is not applicable, or it may add to it if it is inadequate in the particular case, but it should not deviate from the requirement unless there is substantial technical justification. NOTE Product-specific requirements for products incorporating a CDI are given in the relevant product standards. These requirements apply in addition to those given in this International Standard.
