This International Standard applies to interfaces between low-voltage switchgear, controlgear, and controllers (e.g. programmable controllers, personal computers, etc.). Those features of the various CDI standards which can be considered as general have therefore been brought together in this part of IEC 62026. For each CDI, two main documents are necessary to determine all requirements and tests: a) this part, referred to as "IEC 62026-1 or "Part 1 in the relevant CDI parts covering the various types of CDIs; b) the specific CDI part of the IEC 62026 series. A specific CDI part may omit a general requirement if it is not applicable, or it may add to it if it is inadequate in the particular case, but it should not deviate from the requirement unless there is substantial technical justification. NOTE Product-specific requirements for products incorporating a CDI are given in the relevant product standards. These requirements apply in addition to those given in this International Standard.

A relocatable power tap (RPT) is intended only for indoor use as a temporary extension of a grounding alternating-current branch circuit for general use. A cord-connected product that employs ground-fault protection is investigated under the requirements in the Standard for Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupters, UL 943. A cord-connected RPT is not intended to be connected to another cord-connected RPT. This standard does not cover RPTs intended for use with medical equipment. Medical equipment is typically intended for use in General Patient Care Areas or Critical Patient Care Areas as defined by Article 517 of the National Electrical Code for Health Care Facilities. RPTs intended for such use shall comply with the requirements of the Standard for Safety of Medical Electrical Equipment, Part 1: General Requirements, UL 60601-1 and the Standard for Safety Requirements for Medical Electrical Systems, IEC 60601-1-1. A RPT may employ non-electrical decorative features. The decorative features may include various shapes such as rocks, birds and animals, etc. These requirements do not cover Decorative Outfits Accessories.
