It does not cover such equipment designed for operation in other environments, such as office locations. This International Standard deals with the techniques for sampling free gases from gascollecting relays and for sampling oil from oil-filled equipment such as power and instrument transformers, reactors, bushings, oil-filled cables and oil-filled tank-type capacitors. Three methods of sampling free gases and three methods of sampling oil are described; the choice between the methods often depends on the apparatus available and on the quantity of oil needed for analysis. Before analysing the gases dissolved in oil, they must first be extracted from the oil. Three basic methods ar e described, one using extraction by vacuum (Toepler and parti al degassing), another by displacement of the dissolved gases by bubbling the carrier gas through the oil sample (stripping), and the last one by partition of gases between the oil sample and a small volume of the carrier gas (head space). The gases are analysed quantitatively after extraction by gas chromatography; a method of analysis is described. Free gases from gas-collecting relays are analysed without preliminary treatment. The preferred method for assuring the performance of the gas extraction and analysis equipment, considered together as a single system, is to degas samples of oil prepared in the laboratory and containing known concentrations of gases (“gas-in-oil standards”) and quantitatively analyse the gases extracted. Two methods of preparing gas-in-oil standards are described. For daily calibration checks of the chromatograph, it is convenient to use a standard gas mixture containing a suitable known amount of each of the gas components to be in a similar ratio to the commons ratios of the gases extracted from transformer oils. The techniques described take account, on the one hand, of the problems peculiar to analyses associated with acceptance testing in the factory, where gas contents of oil are generally very low and, on the other hand, of the problems imposed by monitoring equipment in the field, where transport of samples may be by un-pressurized air freight and where considerable differences in ambient temperature may exist between the plant and the examining laboratory.

This standard applies to plugs and socket-outlets, cable couplers and appliance couplers, with a rated operating voltage not exceeding 690 V d.c. or a.c. and 500 Hz a.c, and a rated current not exceeding 250 A, primarily intended for industrial use, either indoors or outdoors. The list of preferred ratings is not intended to exclude other ratings. This standard applies to plugs and socket-outlets, cable couplers and appliance couplers, hereinafter referred to as accessories, for use when the ambient temperature is normally within the range of -25 °C to +40 °C. These accessories are intended to be connected to cables of copper or copper alloy only. This standard applies to accessories with screwless type terminals or insulation piercing terminals, with a rated current up to and including. 16 A for Series I and 20 A for Series II. The use of these accessories on building sites and for agricultural, commercial and domestic applications is not precluded. Socket-outlets or appliance inlets incorporated in or fixed to electrical equipment are within the scope of this standard. This standard also applies to accessories intended to be used in extra-low voltage installations. This standard does not apply to accessories primarily intended for domestic and similar general purposes. In locations where special conditions prevail, for example on board ship or where explosions are liable to occur, additional requirements may be necessary.

This International Standard applies to twist-on connecting devices for connecting two or more unprepared rigid and/or flexible copper conductors having a cross-sectional area of 0,5 mm2 up to and including 16 mm2 and complying with IEC 60228, the total cross-sectional area of the connected conductors not exceeding 35 mm2. It covers low voltage circuits up to 1 000 V a.c. and 1 500 V d.c. where electrical energy is utilized for household and similar purposes. This standard covers TOCDs primarily designed for application by hand. However, certain TOCDs, for example for large cross-sections, may require the use of a tool designed for that particular TOCD.
