This part of IEC 62637 defines a charging interface between small handheld multimedia devices and power-supply accessories, specifically chargers. Devices, which could be based on this standard may vary over time, but have to comply with the limited power available1. The interface is a 2 mm barrel type charging interface. This standard does not include the whole charger nor does it include the internal functions of the device. Chargers and devices shall follow the applicable EMC and safety standards. The scope of this part of IEC 62637 is illustrated in Figure 1.

This International Standard specifies performance tests@ designations@ markings@ dimensions and other requirements for secondary lithium single cells and batteries for portable applications. The objective of this standard is to provide the purchasers and users of secondary lithium cells and batteries with a set of criteria with which they can judge the performance of secondary lithium cells and batteries offered by various manufacturers. This standard defines a minimum required level of performance and a standardized methodology by which testing is performed and the results of this testing reported to the user. Hence@ users will be able to establish the viability of commercially available cells and batteries via the declared specification and thus be able to select the cell or battery best suited for their intended application. This standard covers secondary lithium cells and batteries with a range of chemistries. Each electrochemical couple has a characteristic voltage range over which it releases its electrical capacity@ a characteristic nominal voltage and a characteristic end-of-discharge voltage during discharge. Users of secondary lithium cells and batteries are requested to consult the manufacturer for advice.

This SAE Standard serves as a guide for testing procedures of automotive 12 V storage batteries and as a publication providing information on container holddown configuration and terminal geometry. The ratings submitted are to be based on procedures described in this document. The ratings submitted must be of a level that when any subsequent significant sample is tested in accordance with this document, that at least 90% of the batteries shall meet the ratings. The choice of 90% compliance recognizes that batteries consist of many plates and require chemical-electrical formation procedures and small variations in test conditions and procedures can affect the performance of individual batteries. Future Considerations In order to expedite the release of this revision of the Standard, several topic areas were deferred for consideration in future revisions. These items include, but may not be limited to, the following: post dimension modifications, battery technology agnosticism, and a new, more application relevant change acceptance test.

This SAE Standard defines a minimum set of acceptable safety criteria for a lithium-based rechargeable battery system to be considered for use in a vehicle propulsion application as an energy storage system connected to a high voltage power train. While the objective is a safe battery system when installed into a vehicle application, this Standard is primarily focused, wherever possible, on conditions which can be evaluated utilizing the battery system alone. As this is a minimum set of criteria, it is recognized that battery system and vehicle manufacturers may have additional requirements for cells, modules, packs and systems in order to assure a safe battery system for a given application. A battery system is a completely functional energy storage system consisting of the pack(s) and necessary ancillary subsystems for physical support and enclosure, thermal management, and electronic control.and suppliers in this industry are encouraged to present data and results in these formats.
