This part of IEC 60384 is applicable to fixed surface mount capacitors for direct current, with metallized electrodes and polyphenylene sulfide dielectric for use in electronic equipment. These capacitors have metallized connecting pads or soldering strips and are intended to be mounted directly onto substrates for hybrid circuits or onto printed boards. These capacitors may have "self-healing properties" depending on conditions of use. They are primarily intended for applications where the a.c. component is small with respect to the rated voltage. Capacitors for radio interference suppression are not included, but are covered by IEC 60384-14.

This Standard is a sectional specification associated with the generic specification JIS C 5101-1 and applies to fixed metallized polypropylene film dielectric d.c. capacitors for use in electronic equipment (hereafter referred to as "capacitors"). It covers fixed capacitors with metallized electrodes and polypropylene dielectric for use in electronic equipment. These capacitors may have "self-healing properties" depending on conditions of use. They are mainly intended for use with direct voltage. Capacitors for alternating voltage and pulse applications are not included, but are covered by JIS C 5101-17. The maximum power to be applied is 500 var at 50 Hz and the maximum peak voltage is 2 500 V. Two performance grades of capacitors are covered, Grade 1 for long-life application and Grade 2 for general application. Capacitors for electromagnetic interference suppression are not included, but are covered by JIS C 5101-14. Capacitors for electrical shock hazard protection (covered by JIS C 6065) and fluorescent lamp and motor capacitors (covered by IEC technical committee 33, and IEC technical committee 34). NOTE 1 This Standard specifies characteristics of capacitors, but requirements related to the characteristics indicate the targeted values.
