This International Standard defines a scene description format (LASeR) and an aggregation format (SAF) respectively suitable for representing and delivering rich-media services to resource-constrained devices such as mobile phones. LASeR aims at fulfilling all the requirements of rich-media services at the scene description level. LASeR supports: - an optimized set of objects inherited from SVG to describe rich-media scenes; - a small set of key compatible extensions over SVG; - the ability to encode and transmit a LASeR stream and then reconstruct SVG content; - dynamic updating of the scene to achieve a reactive, smooth and continuous service; - simple yet efficient compression to improve delivery and parsing times, as well as storage size, one of the design goals being to allow both for a direct implementation of the SDL as documented, as well as for a decoder compliant with ISO/IEC 23001-1 to decode the LASeR bitstream; - an efficient interface with audio and visual streams with frame-accurate synchronization; - use of any font format, including the OpenType industry standard; and - easy conversion from other popular rich-media formats in order to leverage existing content and developer communities. Technology selection criteria for LASeR included compression efficiency, but also code and memory footprint and performance. Other aims included: scalability, adaptability to the user context, extensibility of the format, ability to define small profiles, feasibility of a J2ME implementation, error resilience and safety of implementations. SAF aims at fulfilling all the requirements of rich-media services at the interface between media/scene description and existing transport protocols: - simple aggregation of any type of stream; - signaling of MPEG and non-MPEG streams; - optimized packet headers for bandwidth-limited networks; - easy mapping to popular streaming formats; - cache management capability; and - extensibility. SAF has been designed to complement LASeR for simple, interactive services, bringing: - efficient and dynamic packaging to cope with high latency networks; - media interleaving; and - synchronization support with a very low overhead. This International Standard defines the usage of SAF for LASeR content. However, LASeR can be used independently from SAF.

This part of ISO/IEC 21000 specifies how to include IPMP information and protected parts of Digital Items in a DIDL document. It purposely does not specify protection measures, keys, key management, trust management, encryption algorithms, certification infrastructures or other components that would also be needed as part of a complete IPMP solution. The IPMP DIDL encapsulates and protects a part of the hierarchy of a Digital Item, and associates appropriate identification and protection information with it. The description of IPMP governance and tools is required to satisfy IPMP for a Digital Item or its parts to be accessed.

This International Standard specifies the coded representation of textual information for timed presentation on screens. The text may be streamed in association with video and audio, in which case the text may represent subtitles e.g. with translations of the associated audio in another language, or as an aid to the hard of hearing; another example is the text of a song in a Karaoke application. However, the text may also be streamed as a stand-alone application without any associated video and audio. The streaming text format is specified in a transport agnostic manner, so as to allow transport over a large variety of transport means, while providing a reasonable level of random access and error robustness. The text streams are defined as byte streams that are capable of carrying text access units of a specified format, optionally interleaved with data needed for the decoding of the text stream. The format of text streams and text access units is specified, as well as signaling and decoding of text streams.

This part of ISO/IEC 23001 provides a standardized set of technologies for encoding XML documents. It addresses a broad spectrum of applications and requirements by providing a generic method for transmitting and compressing XML documents. This part of ISO/IEC 23001 specifies system level functionalities for the communication of XML documents. It provides a specification which will: - enable the development of ISO/IEC 23001-1 receiving sub-systems, called ISO/IEC 23001-1 Terminal, or Terminal in short, to receive and assemble possibly partitioned and compressed XML documents - provide rules for the preparation of XML documents for efficient transport and storage. The decoding process within the ISO/IEC 23001-1 Terminal is normative. The rules mentioned provide guidance for the preparation and encoding of XML documents without leading to a unique encoded representation of such documents.

This Part of ISO/IEC 21000, entitled Digital Item Processing (DIP), specifies the syntax and semantics of tools that may be used to process Digital Items. The tools provide a normative set of tools that specify the processing of a Digital Item in a predefined manner. This technology is specified in one normative clause and three normative annexes: - Digital Item Methods: Digital Item Methods (Clause 5) specifies the set of tools enabling Digital Item Users to include sequences of instructions for adding predefined functionality to a Digital Item. Such a sequence of instructions is a Digital Item Method. Digital Item Methods are authored with the Digital Item Method Language (see 5.2) which includes bindings to Digital Item Base Operations (see 5.4). For extended functionality, Digital Item eXtension Operations (see 5.6) allow such processing to be implemented more efficiently in a higher level programming language. Tools for integrating Digital Item Methods into Digital Item Declarations are also specified (see 5.3). - ECMAScript bindings for Digital Item Base Operations: Annex A specifies the ECMAScript bindings for the Digital Item Base Operations described in 5.3. - Java bindings for Digital Item Base Operations: Annex B specifies the Java bindings for the Digital Item Base Operations described in 5.4. - Calling Java based DIXOs from Digital Item Methods: Annex C specifies the mechanism for calling Java based Digital Item eXtension Operations. Digital Item eXtension Operations are described in 5.6.
