The present document defines a protocol for use between the TISPAN NGN Network Attachment Sub-System (NASS) and the Resource and Admission Control Subsystem (RACS), based on Diameter. The present document is applicable to the e4 interface between the Connectivity Session Location and Repository Function (CLF) and the RACS. Whenever it is possible the present document specifies the requirements for this protocol by reference to specifications produced by the IETF within the scope of Diameter. Where this is not possible, extensions to Diameter are defined within the present document.

This Recommendation defines the architecture requirements for a Data Communication Network (DCN) which may support distributed management communications related to the Telecommunication Management Network (TMN), distributed control plane communications (e.g., signalling and routing) related to the Automatically Switched Optical Network (ASON), and other distributed communications (e.g., Orderwire or Voice Communications, Software Download). The DCN architecture considers networks that are IP-only, OSI-only, and mixed (i.e., support both IP and OSI). The interworking between parts of the DCN supporting IP-only, parts supporting OSIonly, and parts supporting both IP and OSI are also specified. The DCN provides Layer 1 (physical), Layer 2 (data-link) and Layer 3 (network) functionality and consists of routing/switching functionality interconnected via links. These links can be implemented over various interfaces, including Wide Area Network (WAN) interfaces, Local Area Network (LAN) interfaces, and Embedded Communication Channels (ECCs). Various applications (e.g., TMN, ASON, etc.) require a packet-based communication network to transport information between various components. For example, the TMN requires a communication network, which is referred to as the Management Communication Network (MCN) to transport management messages between TMN components (e.g., NEF component and OSF component). ASON requires a communication network, which is referred to as the Signalling Communication Network (SCN) to transport signalling and routing messages between ASON components (e.g., CC components and RC components). This Recommendation specifies data communication functions that can be used to support one or more application's communication network. The data communication functions provided in this Recommendation support connection-less network services. Additional functions may be added in future versions of this Recommendation to support connection-oriented network services. This 2008 revision of the Recommendation adds the definition of the OTN ECC data-link layer termination function and the Transport MPLS (T-MPLS) SCC data link layer termination function.

Recommendation ITU-T X.1162 describes a general security-related architectural model which can be applied in various peer-to-peer (P2P) networks. Based on the architectural model, this Recommendation identifies primitive operations for generic P2P networks. Non-generic and application-dependent operations are not described in this Recommendation. For each primitive operation, the relationship between the security requirements and operations is described. In addition, the relationship between the security functions and operations is described.

The present document provides the stage 3 specification of the Rq interface. The functional requirements and the stage 2 specifications of the Rq interface are contained in ES 282 001 [1] and ES 282 003 [2]. The Rq interface is the interface between the Service Policy Decision Function (SPDF) and the Access - Resource and Admission Control Function (A-RACF) and is used for QoS resource reservation information exchange between the SPDF and the A-RACF. Via the Rq interface the SPDF issues requests for resources in the access network, indicating IP QoS characteristics. The A-RACF uses the IP QoS information to perform admission control and indicate to the SPDF via the Rq interface its admission control decisions. Due to the possible business roles in an access environment, the SPDF may be either in the same domain or in a different domain as the A-RACF. The present document defines: ? The information to be exchanged between SPDF and A-RACF over the Rq interface. ? An Rq interface definition based on the Diameter protocol. In situations where no generic overload control mechanism is used on the Rq interface, the interface shall only be capable of supporting a one-to-one relationship between the A-RACF and SPDF (i.e. one SPDF may only contact one A-RACF, and that A-RACF may only contact that same SPDF). Overload control need not be supported in this situation due to the fact that it should be possible to traffic engineer the capabilities of the two entities, so that the capacity of one entity matches the capacity of the other.
