The ITU Radiocommunication Assembly considering a)that the use of digital television and sound broadcasting is growing around the world, and there are established methods for radio frequency (RF) monitoring of these signals;b)that planning procedures are being developed to facilitate the introduction of these new systems in the existing radio frequency environment;c)that these planning procedures are based on the use of propagation prediction methods and empirically derived protection ratios.

The ITU Radiocommunication Assembly considering a)that several broadcasters around the world desire to deliver programmes of enhanced perceived picture quality to their audiences without the need to introduce changes in the specifications of the delivered video signal;b)that in particular, the current implementation of HDTV broadcasting in several countries, and the availability of prerecorded programmes of HDTV picture quality, in the form of HD capable DVDs for consumer use, contribute to the broadcasters’ desire to increase the perceived picture quality of the SDTV programmes they deliver to their audiences, while retaining compatibility with existing SDTV receivers.
Approaches in programme production intended to improve the perceived image quality of broadcast digital SDTV and HDTV programmes
This Recommendation describes the planning criteria, which could be used for planning of terrestrial digital sound broadcasting in the VHF band, for Digital Systems A and F of Recommendation ITU-R BS.1114.
Technical basis for planning of terrestrial digital sound broadcasting in the VHF band
This Recommendation specifies the requirements relevant to the use of audio source coding systems in sound broadcasting, including television. The Recommendation covers the application of contribution and distribution, and emission.
User requirements for audio coding systems for digital broadcasting
This Recommendation addresses technical means for signalling the broadcaster’s intent with regard to the redistribution of broadcast digital television content over the Internet (or similar networks). The ITU Radiocommunication Assembly.

Establishes a broadcasting standard for the Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) system designed for delivery of high-quality digital audio programme and data services for mobile, portable and fixed reception from terrestrial or satellite transmitters in the Very High Frequency (VHF)/Ultra High Frequency (UHF) frequency bands as well as for distribution through cable networks.

This part of IEC 62297 specifies how the trigger messages defined in IEC 62297-1 are transmitted. A trigger is defined as information sent from a service provider as part of a data broadcasting transmission that initiates an application in a receiver. Additional information in the trigger message allows filtering or prioritization techniques to be applied at the receiver. Examples of possible use include the forcing of the display of information to warn of severe weather conditions and advising of extreme content in the TV programme. In an interactive system, a message or icon might be displayed inviting on-line access to vote, to register an interest in an advertised product, or to browse programme-related content. This standard specifies how trigger messages are broadcast using teletext technology. Both Page Format-Clear and Independent Data Line methods are defined, using protocols defined in ETSI EN 300 708.
Triggering messages for broadcast applications - Transport methods
This part of IEC 62297 specifies an application-triggering scheme for TV broadcasting information sent from a service provider as part of a data broadcasting transmission and intended to control an application in a receiver.

This Technical Report provides guidelines and procedures for determining the overall performance of optical transmissions systems used in cable networks for television signals, sound signals and interactive services. It is based on the requirements for optical equipment defined in the standard EN 60728-6 (Cable networks for television signals, sound signals and interactive services – Part 6: Optical equipment) and should be used together with this standard. The information provided is meant to help field engineers and network planners (system designers) in planning and designing optical systems. Though this content is less dense than in a standard, basic knowledge about system parameters of cable networks is needed.
