This Recommendation specifies a method for a transmitting side to reconstruct the received video sequence in order to monitor video quality at the receiver using transmission error information for packetized video transmission. This Recommendation applies to video services where two-way digital communications are available. The method in this Recommendation requires that each packet can be traced and identified. Some packet transport protocols such as RTP(Real-time Transport Protocol) and ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode)/AAL(ATM Adaptation Layer) have this feature. In order to evaluate video quality at the receiver, the method needs to be used with an objective model for video quality measurement such as J.144. It is suggested that a standardized method should be used.

When combined with companion ITU-T Recs J.290 (J.stb-core-a) and J.292 (J.stb-mi-a), the architecture defines a cost-efficient platform with capacity and flexibility to support growth of on-demand video, high definition digital TV, managed in-home networks connecting a wide range of consumer-provided devices, and future IP multimedia services including IP voice, video telephony, and multiplayer gaming. This Recommendation reflects key functional aspects of the next generation cable set-top-box, such as a common application platform and MPEG transport including advanced codecs.

This architecture defines a cost-efficient platform with capacity and flexibility to support growth of on-demand video, high definition digital TV, managed in-home networks connecting awide range of consumer-provided devices, and future IP multimedia services including IP voice,video telephony, and multiplayer gaming. The goal of this Recommendation is to provide corefunctionalities and can serve as foundations for network specific environments. It SHOULD be noted that home networking portion of this architecture is based upon ITU-T Rec. J.190. In actual implementation of NG-STB-A functionalities, this Recommendation MUST be used with either ITU-T Rec. J.292 or ITU-T Rec. J.291 based on access network availability.

This Recommendation describes a core architecture that is not dependent on transport media for a next generation set-top box that will allow service providers to offer existing and new advanced services regardless of the transport media in the future. It is assumed in this Recommendation that all contents are transported on IP packets with an adequate QoS controlled mechanism. This Recommendation reflects key functional aspects of the next generation set-top box, such as network resource adaptability, secure two-way authenticated communication and session resource management and a QoS-control mechanism.

This specification covers flexible and semirigid cables with solid and semisolid dielectric cores, with single, dual and twin inner conductors. Cables covered by this specification are primarily intended for use as transmission lines to conduct energy in a simple power transfer continuously or intermittently. In general, these cables are designed for low-loss, stable operation from the relatively low frequencies through the higher frequencies in the microwave and radar regions of the frequency spectrum. Cables may also be used as circuit elements, delay lines or impedance matching devices. These cables are supplied under a reliability assurance program as specified in section 3.
