This European Standard specifies a test method to evaluate the reaction to fire performance of building products. A fire is simulated which under well-ventilated conditions starts in a corner of a small room with a single open doorway. The method is intended to evaluate the contribution of a surface product to fire growth in a room configuration, using a specified ignition source. It constitutes a reference test for this type of product within the European classification system for reaction to fire performance of construction products. The method is particularly suitable for construction products which cannot be tested in their end use application in a small or intermediate laboratory scale. The method can also be used to assess the effect of an insulating substrate on the product performance. A test performed in accordance with the method specified in this European Standard provides data for the early stages of a fire from ignition up to flashover. The method is not intended to evaluate floor coverings. It may not be suitable for some free-standing products because their integrity, when exposed to fire, could have a decisive influence on their behaviour. NOTE The term “surface product” as used in the title and scope of this European Standard specifically relates to internal surface linings, assemblies, pipes and pipe insulation products used in buildings.

Water permeability is a fundamental physical property that can be used in conjunction with other properties to characterize honeycomb sandwich core materials. Migration testing can be used to characterize and compare the relative permeability of honeycomb core materials to water. This test method provides a standard method of characterizing the rate of water migration within honeycomb sandwich core materials for design properties, material specifications, research and development applications, and quality assurance. Factors that influence water migration rate characteristics of honeycomb sandwich core materials and shall therefore be reported include the following: core material, methods of material fabrication, core geometry (cell size), core thickness, core thickness uniformity, cell wall thickness, specimen geometry, specimen preparation, specimen conditioning, facing material, facing permeability, adhesive permeability, adhesive thickness, and methods of mass, volume, and water column height measurement.1.1 This test method covers the determination of water migration in honeycomb core materials.1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text the inch-pound units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system must be used independently of the other. This British Standard specifies the design, preparation and application of plaster based on gypsum, cement, cement and lime, for internal plastering on all types of background used under normal conditions. It includes plastering onto both new and old backgrounds and the maintenance and repair of existing work. It concerns materials, backgrounds, preparation of the surface to be plastered, choice of suitable gypsum, cement, cement and lime plastering systems, methods of application and inspection and testing of plastering. Recommendations on gypsum, cement, cement and lime plastering mixes with special properties intended to enhance thermal insulation, fire resistance, acoustic insulation and to increase radiation absorption maintenance and repair are also covered. This European Standard provides the fire performance classification procedures for roofs/roof coverings exposed to external fire based on the four test methods given in ENV 1187:2002. For the classification of a roof/roof covering, only those test methods need to be applied for which the corresponding classification is envisaged. Products are considered in relation to their end use application. NOTE The distinction between roofs with a steep slope and facades, in terms of the test and classification standard to be applied, may be subject to national regulations. General information on the four test methods in ENV 1187:2002 is given in Annex A.

1.1 This specification covers polyolefin-based plastic lumber products for use as exterior residential decking boards.1.2 Plastic lumber products are currently made predominantly with recycled polyolefin plastics (in particular high-density polyethylene) where the products are more or less non-homogenous in the cross-section. However, this specification may also be applicable to similar manufactured plastic products made from other plastic and plastic composite materials that have non-homogenous cross-sections.1.3 This specification details a procedure to calculate recommended span lengths for spacing of support joists. This procedure was developed using experimental data from a typical unreinforced plastic lumber made predominantly from recycled high-density polyethylene. The methodology to develop span lengths for other types and compositions of plastic lumber is detailed in Appendix X1 of this standard.1.4 The values are stated in inch-pound units, as these are currently the most common units used by the construction industry. Equivalent SI units are indicated in parentheses. Users of fire test data often need a quantitative indication of the quality of the data presented in a test report. This quantitative indication is referred to as the “measurement uncertainty”. There are two primary reasons for estimating the uncertainty of fire test results. 5.1.1 ISO/IEC 17025 requires that competent testing and calibration laboratories include uncertainty estimates for the results that are presented in a report. 5.1.2 Fire safety engineers need to know the quality of the input data used in an analysis to determine the uncertainty of the outcome of the analysis.1.1 This guide covers the evaluation and expression of uncertainty of measurements of fire test methods developed and maintained by ASTM International, based on the approach presented in the GUM. The use in this process of precision data obtained from a round robin is also discussed.1.2 Application of this guide is limited to tests that provide quantitative results in engineering units. This includes, for example, methods for measuring the heat release rate of burning specimens based on oxygen consumption calorimetry, such as Test Method E 1354.1.3 This guide does not apply to tests that provide results in the form of indices or binary results (for example, pass/fail). For example, the uncertainty of the Flame Spread Index obtained according to Test Method E 84 cannot be determined.1.4 In some cases additional guidance is required to supplement this standard. For example, the expression of uncertainty of heat release rate measurements at low levels requires additional guidance and uncertainties associated with sampling are not explicitly addressed.1.5 This fire standard cannot be used to provide quantitative measures.
