This document specifies a test method for determining the suitability of aggregates and cationic emulsions for slurry surfacings and, where appropriate, the effect of individual additives. This document applies to slurry surfacings. NOTE 1 The procedure uses a standardized mix composition but the method may also be used to assess the effect of variations in the grading and binder content but this use is not part of the standard. NOTE 2 Additives affecting the breaking behaviour may also be tested under standardised conditions. The test may also be used to study the effect of a particular type of bitumen or emulsifier.

This European Standard provides a framework for specifying the characteristics and relevant test methods for polymer modified bitumens which are suitable for use in the construction and maintenance of roads, airfields and other paved areas. This framework covers the following characteristics: "Consistency at intermediate service temperature" (surrogate characteristic: penetration); "Consistency at elevated service temperature" (surrogate characteristic: softening point); -- "Cohesion"; -- "Durability" of consistency. The cohesion property has been included as a means of discriminating between polymer modified bitumens and other bituminous binders. The other essential requirements, "adhesion" and "setting ability" are indicated by tests carried out on the finished asphalt mixtures. The introduction of classes of convenience in Tables 1 and 2 enables the selection of the most suitable specification for the bitumen taking account of local conditions of climate and use. The nomenclature of polymer modified bitumens comprises the penetration range and the minimum softening point (see example in Annex A).

1.1 This specification covers brick intended for use as paving material subjected to pedestrian and light vehicular traffic. The units are designed for use in pedestrian applications and vehicular areas that are subjected to low volumes of vehicular traffic, such as residential driveways and streets and commercial driveways (passenger drop-offs). The units are not intended to support heavy vehicular traffic covered by Specification C 1272 or for industrial applications covered by Specification C 410. Note 18212;Heavy vehicular traffic is defined as high volumes of heavy vehicles (trucks having 3 or more axles) in Specification C 1272.1.2 The property requirements of this standard apply at the time of purchase. The use of results from testing of brick extracted from masonry structures for determining conformance or nonconformance to the property requirements (Section 4) of this specification is beyond the scope of this specification.1.3 Brick are manufactured from clay, shale, or similar naturally occurring earthy substances and subjected to a heat treatment at elevated temperatures (firing). The heat treatment must develop sufficient fired bond between the particulate constituents to provide the strength and durability requirement of this specification (see firing, fired bond, and incipient fusion in Terminology C 43).1.4 The brick are available in a variety of sizes, colors, and shapes. They are available in three classes according to exposure environment and three types according to type of traffic exposure.1.5 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard.

This test method is used to prepare specimens for determination of the bulk specific gravity of a cured compacted specimen. It covers modifications to Test Method D 6925 for preparation of CMA by means of the SGC. This test method is useful for monitoring the density of the specimen during the compaction process. It is suitable for laboratory design and field control of CMA. Local end-use specifications should be developed to establish conformance to the job and user requirements.1.1 This test method concerns the preparation and compaction of cylindrical specimens of dense-graded cold mix asphalt (CMA) using the Superpave gyratory compactor (SGC).1.2 This test method is applicable for road mixes or plant mixes prepared at ambient temperatures.1.3 This test method also refers to the determination of the bulk specific gravity of the compacted CMA.1.4 The values given in SI units are to be considered the standard.1.5 A precision and bias statement for this test method has not been developed at this time. The vertical compression test for geocomposite pavement panel drains is intended to simulate vertical, horizontal, and eccentric loading resulting from an applied vertical load. The results of the analyses, including vertical strain of the panels and core area change, may be used as an index test. The vertical compression test may be used to evaluate core area change for a given load. The vertical compression test may be used to evaluate percent vertical strain for a given load.
