This SAE Standard establishes terminology and the content of commercial literature specifications for self-propelled crawler and wheeled material handlers, pedestal mounted material handlers and their equipment as defined in 3.1. Illustrations used here are not intended to include all existing commercial machines or to be exactly descriptive of any particular machine. They have been provided to describe the principles to be used in applying this document. (Material handlers share many design characteristics with hydraulic excavators and log loaders; primarily 360 degree continuous reotation of the upperstructure relative to the undercarriage or mounting. They differ in their operating application. Material handlers are used for the handling of scrap material and normally utilize grapples or magnets. Hydraulic excavators are used for the excavation of earth, gravel and other loose material utilizing a bucket. Log loaders are used for the handling of logs and trees and normally utilize grapplers.) The purpose of this document is to establish a uniform method of providing nomenclature for material handlers.

This SAE Recommended Practice is intended as the definition of a standard test, but may be subject to frequent change to keep pace with experience and technical advances. This should be kept in mind when considering its use. The SAE No 2 Friction Test Machine is used to evaluate the friction characteristics of automatic transmission plate clutches with automotive transmission fluids. It can also be used to conduct durability tests on wet friction systems. The specific purpose of this document is to define a Durability Test based on a specific power level selected from either the 3600 r/min Stepped Power Test or from the 6000 r/min Stepped Power Test, for the evaluation of wet friction system performance variation as a function of number of cycles. This standard procedure is intended for common use by both suppliers and end users to allow objective comparisons of wet friction material system performance. The only variables selected by the supplier or user of the friction system are: a. Friction Material; b. Fluid; and c. Reaction Plates. These three variables must be clearly identified when reporting the results of this test. If any of the test parameters or system hardware as described in this document are changed, other than the friction material, test fluid, or reaction plates, the data may not be reported as having been obtained using this document. This procedure is not intended to evaluate the initial coefficient or break-in characteristics. For this information, refer to SAE J2490 SAE No. 2 Friction Test Machine µPVT Test.

This SAE Standard establishes the procedures for the application of Tonne Kilometer Per Hour (TKPH) rating values for off-the-road tires; utilizing empirical data formula, it describes the procedure for evaluating and predicting off-the-road tire TKPH requirements as determined by a work cycle analysis. The loads, speeds, inflations, and rim configurations are assumed to be within acceptable industry or manufacturer's prescribed recommendations. Other application parameters affecting tires are not included in the scope (for example: floating, cut, bruise, wear, etc.). These parameters must also be considered for final tire selection, since a tire that maximizes desirable TKPH characteristics will sometimes compromise these other parameters. The standards for the productivity of off-the-road machines to tires are not included in the scope. The formula (4.2 and 4.3) are applicable to transport type machines only (that is, trucks, tractor trailers, and scrapers) using category E earthmover Service Code Tires. 1.1 This specification covers eye protectors, exclusive of helmet-mounted visors, designed for use by riders of motorcycles, mopeds, and snowmobiles for off road use that minimize or significantly reduce injury to the eye and adnexa as a result of impact and penetration by objects that may be kicked up from the road, track, trail, or snow surfaces and made airborne and, as such, likely to cause eye discomfort or injury. This specification does not address shield-type eye protectors such as are connected to, integral to, and/or supported by protective helmets. Protective eyewear offers protection only to the eyes and does not protect other parts of the head, face, or neck. 1.2 Protectors are divided into two types, goggles or spectacles, depending on their design characteristics. 1.3 This specification does not apply to prescription eyewear. (Warning???Impact-resistant prescription spectacles that conform to the standard specifications of ANSI Z87.1 should be used if spectacles are to be worn under goggle-type eyewear as covered by this specification.) 1.4 In this specification, the use of the word ???shall??? indicates a mandatory requirement.
