These manufacturing procedures are recommended minimum guidelines for use by remanufacturers of light-duty automotive starters to promote consistent reliability, durability, and safety of remanufactured starters. Installation of remanufactured or rebuilt products is often an economical way to repair a vehicle even though the products may not be identical to original equipment parts. These remanufacturing procedures are recommended minimum guidelines (with theunderstanding that being more critical is acceptable) for use by remanufacturers/rebuilders of alternators to promote consistent reliability, durability, and safety of remanufactured alternators. Installation of remanufactured or rebuilt products is often an economical way to repair an application even though the products may not be identical to original equipment parts. Before processing any part, a remanufacturer/rebuilder should determine if the original design and present condition of the core are suitable for remanufacturing/rebuilding so as to provide durable operation of the part as well as acceptable performance when installed on the application. The remanufacturer/rebuilder should also consider the safety aspects of the product and any recommendations of the original manufacturers related to remanufacturing or rebuilding this product.

This part of ISO 22900 provides the framework to allow diagnostic and reprogramming software applications from all vehicle manufacturers the flexibility to work with multiple vehicle communication interfaces (VCI) from multiple tool suppliers. This system enables each vehicle manufacturer to support all vehicle communication interfaces to perform diagnostics and to control the programming sequence for electronic control units (ECUs) in their vehicles. This part of ISO 22900 describes the applicable use cases to justify the benefits of ISO 22900. It also specifies the design requirements to be followed by diagnostic and programming vehicle communication interface designers. The design requirements are categorized into different levels of conformance classes to provide: -- "software compliance", a set of requirements for existing VCIs, which are software but not hardware compliant; -- "electrical compliance", defining all signals and electrical interfaces that allow a system integrator to connect more than one VCI Protocol Module to the vehicle diagnostic connector and the host system; "mechanical compliance", defining standard connectors on the VCI Protocol Module to interface to the vehicle Data Link Connector (DLC) and the host system, as well as defining a cabling concept to support interfacing more than one VCI Protocol Module. The technical requirements specified in this part of ISO 22900 have been influenced by the requirements of legal authority with regard to "vehicle OBD and programming". The Modular Vehicle Communication Interface hardware design requirements will provide appropriate development guidance for vehicle communication interface manufacturers to meet legal authority and automotive manufacturer demands with regard to inter-vendor operability.

ISO 25981:2008 specifies dimensional characteristics, contact allocation, tests and requirements of 7-pole connectors for electrical connections of electronically monitored charging systems of towing and towed vehicles. The electronic monitoring system is designed to detect 12 V and 24 V nominal supply voltage and to limit the current to 50 A. This is a connector without breaking capacity. This electrical connection is intended for use with separable truck-trailer combinations in order to connect an additional battery pack of the trailer with the generator of the truck using an electronically monitored charging system. Additional battery packs in trailers are basically used with tailgate lifts, electrical forklifts or other technical equipment with high current consumption. ISO 25981:2008 further specifies a park socket used to receive and store the plug when it is disconnected.

This SAE Recommended Practice covers the design and application of primary on-board wiring distribution system harnessing for surface vehicles. This document is intended for single phase nominal 120 VAC circuits that provide power to truck sleeper cab hotel loads so that they may operate with the main propulsion engine turned off. The power supply comes from alternative sources such as land-based grid power, DC-AC inverters and auxiliary power generators. The circuits may also provide power to improve vehicle performance through charging batteries or operating cold-weather starting aids. This document is not intended to provide guidance for electric or hybrid electric vehicle wiring circuits. Refer to SAE J1673 for high voltage automotive wiring assembly design. It is understood that drivers may choose to operate 120 VAC devices with the truck moving or at rest. For example, a passenger may operate the microwave or watch television and need to operate an inverter. The environment that these devices are operated in can also vary with exterior ambient temperature extremes. Exposure to oil and vibration are other elements that typical household 120 VAC wiring would not normally be exposed to; therefore, the construction of this power distribution is made more robust for a mobile trucking environment. Driver interaction with the 120 VAC power through use of appliances or connection of cord sets requires special attention to safety aspects dictated in regulatory standards from Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs) approved labs like Underwriter's Laboratories (UL), Canadian Standards Association (CSA) or from the National Electric Code (NEC) that are not common practice with typical 12 VDC vehicle wiring. This recommended practice supports that all electrical materials, devices, components, appliances, fittings and equipment shall be Listed, Labeled or Certified to UL and CSA standards and shall be connected in an approved manner when installed. Detailed requirements are listed hereafter.

A precise objective definition of a low beam visual vehicle headlamp cut-off has become necessary, since a requirement for the correct aiming of these beams is specified within all existing regulations. Until recently, only European countries had regulations for cut-off based on visual aiming. The Northern American countries used to require geometric aiming of totally standardised devices, but since 1997 the USA has also introduced visual aiming. More recently, the evolution of the shape of the front of vehicles has led these countries to consider new headlamp regulations, which could lead them to prescribe an initial vertical aiming on the vehicles using other methods than the geometric method prescribed until now. Discussions regarding the definition of a worldwide low beam pattern have also stimulated a requirement for a visual aiming procedure. These issues mean that it is now necessary to determine a clear and acceptable definition of headlamp cut-off. The visual definition currently used in Europe is not sufficiently accurate, mainly because it calls upon visual perception, which can be very different from one observer to another. A good level of accuracy could be obtained by accepting the mean value of several aiming operations. Nevertheless, this could not be done in practice under the conditions normally encountered when performing aiming operations in car factories or repair shops, since it would require a considerable amount of time. For the same reason, it could not be carried out during routine operations in laboratories. The only method that can provide, in one determination, the required level of accuracy in the objective determination of the cut-off, is one using physical measurements and based on good knowledge of the visual perception. The difficulty in obtaining a cut-off model lies in the fact that it should represent the visual perception of the projection of a luminous phenomenon on a screen. Consequently, the model has to take into account the luminous beam itself, the observers (who will be presented as a mean value), the kind of screen on which the beam is projected and the distance at which the screen is situated from the device emitting the light. Discussions and studies have been undertaken during the last 25 years, at first mainly in Europe, and later mainly in North America where the cut-off system is prescribed. All or parts of these parameters have been taken into account during these studies or discussions. The following text (i) sets out the definitions that could be given to the "cut-off" according to the above-cited parameters, and (ii) gives a short summary of the discussions held on the subject, and the results of the studies conducted (including models, if any). Finally, in Clause 6 some conclusions are given. These conclusions indicate that a number of methods are acceptable, and it is still necessary for the responsible bodies to decide which parameters should be chosen and which value should be given to set an internationally accepted standard.
