ISO 22902-6:2006 defines the services provided by the vehicle interface. Those services are implemented in an "AMI-C" system in one or both of two ways: 1) as messages on a multimedia network, and 2) as Java Classes in the vehicle interface API (Application Programming Interface). These are described in separate specifications.

The scope of ISO 22902-7:2006 is limited to conditions and testing at the equipment level; it does not include all conditions and testing necessary for complete verification and validation of the vehicle system. Environmental and reliability testing at lower and higher levels are required to ensure that vehicle quality and reliability objectives are met.

ISO 22902-1:2006 is based on the AMI-C specifications and reference documents for the automotive industry. It is established to facilitate the development, promotion and standardization of automotive information and entertainment system interfaces to motor vehicle communication networks. The technical glossary is a compilation of terms and definitions used in AMI-C technical publications. The user guide describes the organization, classification and scope of the reference information for ISO documents. The architectural overview describes the structural, functional and applications views of the AMI-C architecture.

ISO 22902-4:2006 provides a communication model that contains the requirements for a Vehicle Interface Protocol (VIP) to access a vehicle interface over a network transport protocol for AMI-C networks. It does not apply to networks that have pre-existing protocols and messages for transporting vehicle functions. A VIP defines how an application communicates over a simple network transport mechanism. These requirements can be applied to network technologies that use UDP/IP as the transport method. However, pre-existing systems may have unique protocols and messages for transporting messages about vehicle functions; therefore, ISO 22902-4:2006 does not cover such pre-existing technology. Messages transported are network-specific instantiations of the CMS. ISO 22902-4:2006 addresses the following aspects related to the AMI-C's approach to network communication: Message frame format, Application transaction, System transaction, Initialization process, Address resolution, and Functional module discovery and removal process.

The scope of this SAE Standard is the definition of the functional, environmental, and life cycle test requirements for electrically operated, operator controlled forward warning horn devices, primarily intended for use on self-propelled, work machines as defined by J1116 (limited to categories of 1) construction, and 2) general purpose industrial). The purpose of this document is to define a set of performance requirements for electric warning horns, independent of machine usage. The laboratory tests defined in this document are intended to provide a uniform and repeatable means of verifying whether or not a test horn meets the stated requirements. For on-machine requirements and test procedures, refer to ISO 9533.

Procedures included within this specification are intended to cover performance testing at all phases of development, production, and field analysis of any USB cable assemblies and associated connections that constitute the electrical connection systems between the consumer peripheral interface and the USB computer source in road vehicle applications. These procedures are only applicable to the USB connector and the cable. Unless otherwise specified, all of the tests listed in this specification are for both consumer and nonconsumer interface connectors.

The Class A task force of the vehicle network for multiplexing and data communications subcommittee is providing information on sensors that could be applicable for a Class A bus application. Sensors are generally defined as any device that inputs information onto the bus. Sensors can be an input controlled by the operator or an input that provides the feedback or status of a monitored vehicle function. Although there is a list of sensors provided, this list is not all-inclusive. This sAE information Report is intended to help the network system engineer and is meant to stimulate the design thought process.

The subject matter contained within this SAE Information report is set forth by the class A task force of the vehicle network multiplexing and data communications (multiplex) committee as information the network system designer should consider. The task force realizes that the information contained in this report may be somewhat controversial and a consensus throughout the industry does not exist at this time. The task force also intends that the analysis set forth in this document is for sharing information and encouraging debate on the benefits of utilizing a multiple network architecture.

The SAE J1939 series of recommended practices are intended for light- and heavy-duty vehicle uses on- or off-road as well as appropriate stationary applications which use vehicle derived components (e.g., generator sets). Vehicles of interest include, but are not limited to: on- and off-highway trucks and their trailers, construction equipment, and agriculture equipment and implements. The purpose of these documents is to provide an open interconnect system for on-board electronic systems. It is the intention of these documents to allow electronic devices to communicate with each other by providing a standard architecture. J1939-73 identifies the diagnostic connector to be used for the vehicle service tool interface and defines messages to accomplish diagnostic services. California, EPA, or EU regulated OBD requirements are satisfied with a subset of the specified connector and the defined messages. Diagnostic messages (DMs) provide the utility needed when the vehicle is being repaired. Diagnostic messages are also used during vehicle operation by the networked electronic control modules to allow them to report diagnostic information and self-compensate as appropriate, based on information received. Diagnostic messages include services such as periodically broadcasting active diagnostic trouble codes, identifiying operator diagnostic lamp status, reading or clearing diagnostic trouble codes, reading or writing control module memory, provide a security function, stopping/starting message broadcasts, reporting diagnostic readiness, monitoring engine parametric data, etc.

The Class A Task Force of the Vehicle Network for Multiplex and Data communications Committee is publishing this SAE Information report to provide insight into Class A Multiplexing. Multiplexed actuators are generally defined as devices which accept information from the multiplexed bus. A multiplexed actuator can be an output device controlled by the operator or an intelligent controller. A multiplex actuator can also be a display device that reports the status of a monitored vehicle function. This document is intended to help the network system engineers and is meant to stimulate the design thought process. A list of multiplexed actuator examples is provided in appendix A, figure A1. Many other examples can be identified.

This part of ISO 16750 applies to electric and electronic systems/components for vehicles. It describes the potential environmental stresses and specifies tests and requirements recommended for the specific mounting location on/in the vehicle. This part of ISO 16750 describes the electrical loads. Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is not covered by this part of ISO 16750. Electrical loads are independent from the mounting location, but may vary due to the electrical resistance in the vehicle wiring harness and connection system.
